I have no specific information on your family just some general suggestions ... the name McAleer is prominent in County Tyrone Northern Ireland. Many of the residents of County Tyrone came from or went to Scotland. Contact me off line for more information too lengthy to list.

Re: Mc Aleer, Hagerty of New York

Dawn, If you don't have Mariah's death record yet, get it to find out her parents names. She was born in 1854 so look for family census records for 1850, 1860, and 1870. If there are siblings listed in the censuses, search for them as well. Look for naturalization records for any brothers and fathers. Look for graves for the parents to see if they have a place of origin on the grave. Look for death notices for the father to see if there is a place of origin listed. If you are lucky, and a family member has an account at The Emigrant Savings Bank, that will list the place of origin and names of all amily members. If you are near a good genealogical library there are resources available for you to do some of this searching, otherwise plan a trip to New York. Good luck!
Mc Aleer, Hagerty

I'm trying to find where in Ireland My G-G-Grandmother may have come from. Her maiden name was Mc Aleer. She married Robert Hagerty/Haggerty around 1875-1879. The 1880 census lists her with her sister Annie Mc Aleer. Maria (pronounced Mariah) Mc Aleer Hagerty was born in NY in 1854 and her sister Annie in 1856. They list parents as born in IRE. Annie lived with her sister in 1900 and becomes a Smith. In the 1900 census it lists parents as born in Scotland?
Any ideas on where to search? My grandmother insists they were from Ireland.
