Can you help? I’m looking for photos (and letters, diaries, etc.) of Civil War ancestors for a book I’m writing for my kids and grandkids (& nieces and nephews). The photos don’t have to be contemporaneous with the Civil War – earlier or later will do just fine. If you don’t have any photos of the following, do me a favor and ask around in your extended family – you never know. For example, who’s ever think to ask a Glenn if he had any photos of James and Jered VanLiew – but I’ve got ‘em – they’re my great grand-uncles. So here’s who I’m looking for:
Thaddeus Maxson, Co. C, 10th Kansas Cavalry
Willard Maxson, Co. C, 1oth Kansas Cavalry
Oliver P. Maxon, Co. F, 10th Iowa Infantry
Of course I will happily pay any reproduction and mailing costs, and will make what information I have available as well. I have military and civilian photos of James Lewis VanLiew, Private in Company D, 1st New York Veteran Cavalry, and of Jared VanLiew, Sergeant in Company I, 64th Illinois Infantry (Yates’ Sharpshooters). I also have two letters from James VanLiew to his brother, Jared. Neither man survived the war. Happy to share.
George D. Glenn
