Aaron is correct. Lemuel Homer Mauldin's death certificate says his parents were Homer Mauldin and Leathy Smith.

Lemual Homer Mauldin born 1888 GA died 1960 in OK married Mary Letha Smith 1894-1977. 1940 census index shows him as L Homer Mauldin and M Setha Mauldin. They had a daughter with them who had been married and had the last name Robert. The younger children are listed with her last name, so Lemuel, Jr is listed as Lemuel Robert, 8 years old.

Lemuel Homer, born 1888, was son of Elmar Newton Mauldin 1865 GA-1932 AL and Samantha Lawrence. Elmar is pretty easy to find after his marriage, but his name is botched in the early censuses with his parents. He is listed in 1870 with his parents, Lemuel Homer Mauldin 1812-1880 and his second wife, Sarah Bowman, but he is indexed as Elenor. Census record shows him as a male, though. By 1880, Lemuel Homer was dead and Sarah Bowman was living with her parents. She and the children are indexed with the last name Bowman, but the children's given names match her Mauldin children. Elmar is listed as Newton E Bowman.
