Hi,

I'm a planning history lecturer at Lincoln University, Canterbury, with a particular interest in maps and surveyors. I hope the reunion went well. I'm currently trying to trace the sequence of map-making for wellington in 1840.

You'll probably be aware that Te Papa has a manuscript map of the city of Britannia which shows in the legend a reference to an "Acre belonging to L. Nattrass, Esq." - marked in scarlet. The section no. is 512 on the corner of Lambton Quay and Willis Street, and he is the only landholder formally acknowledged in this unsigned, working map.

Since it is obvious that Luke could sketch very well indeed I'm wondering if he had any map-drawing ability i.e., did he draw up this map? Any biographical information on Luke might help me.

Thanks

Les - Do you have information on any of the family that stayed behind in London ? My g-grandfather was Mark Nattriss b.1854 Limehouse, London (though the family used various spellings Nattrass, Nattress, and Nattriss at different times). He was recorded in the 1881 census as a 'certificated school teacher'. Your branch of the family seem to like the apostolic names, so I thought it might be possible Also, there aren't many Nattrasses in London - they seem mostly to come from the north of England. - Many thanks for any information - Steve Henley

Please check this site and see if this is your family and if she is then I would like some input about this 11 month old child, Sadie Natirass.
I had hoped the surname would include several spellings, but it did not. Yet this is a start for the surname.
