Looking for evidence of the maiden name and parentage of the wife of William Smith Mattoon (1807-1865) of Canaan, Columbia co, NY.

She is said* to have been Margaret Short (1811-1863), and to have been a sister of Phoebe Catherine Short (dau of Peter W Short & Margaret Hasbrouck, bpt. 12 Apr 1817 in Woodstock, Ulster co, NY) wife of William's brother Benjamin Mattoon.
