Hi Helen, this sounds like my grandfathers first family in England. He (Oscar Philipe Schmit) was married to a girl named Masterman and they changed the name then to Masterman Smith around the turn of the century. My mother says they had three boys and a girl, apparently the daughter died in the 1918 flu epidemic while the boys went to Canada and Australia. My mother is his youngest daughter of his marriage to Ethel May Mann
