I don't understand--are you saying that your Alfred Mason is English? Our surname MASON is an English version of the French MASSON. As I explained in a previous posting, the spelling was changed by a spouse who thought it best to try to pass as English, or Scottish, right :-)
My English/Scot/Irish descendants are in my paternal grandmother's line: SHATNEY and MILES. Other surnames are the French HUARD, LAROCQUE, LEFEBVRE, MASSON, and MITCHELL.
I'm glad you wrote because I gave you some misinformation in my original note: The Indian tribe in Maine with several listings of the surname MITCHELL on their veterans memorial is Penobscot, NOT Passamaquoddy! Sorry!
