As for the kids, Mary is not shown, John is listed as Louis and has 5 kids all born in Kansas, Adaline is listed as Maggie and is listed as Maggie Doss, widowed with 4 kids.
The main listing, 1900 Pittsburg Kansas, shows Louis coming over in 1860. The father, John born in 1818, shows coming over in 1861. A Kansas census at 1905 shows Maggie Doss, born 1858 in Italy, with the father born in Italy and the mother born in Switzerland. So as for the origins, it may depend on the region as to what they claimed.
