Hi, I just thought I would see if anyone might have info on my Martin(s).
My greatgramdmother Josephine Martin
born: 12 April 1882
Quatro Ribeiras, Terceira,Azores
died: 23 June 1959
Tulare, Tulare Co, CA
she married my greatgrandfather(also a Martin)on 31 May 1911
Joseph C. Martin
born: 3 March 1882
Quatro Ribeiras, Terceira, Azores
died: 19 Oct 1969
Tulare, Tulare Co, CA
I have been told by my grandmother that both of these were from the same village in the Azores and knew each other, but Josephine's father wouldn't let them date. They each moved to Massachusetts, her with sisters. Then each married someone else. Her husband got sick and went back to visit his family in the Azores and died there, leaving her a widow in the US, no children. Joseph married and worked in a tennis shoe factory in New Bedford (this is what my aunt tells me that he used to tell her). His wife and many children (my grandmother says he told her 5-7 children) all died of TB. Joseph and Josephine met up again in Massachusetts and married. He came out to CA and she followed, they had 5 children here, one being my grandmother. Their children: Alice, Jess, Madalyn(my grandmother), Joseph P, and his twin Kathleen?(she died about 18 months. If you or anyone has any info that might connect to this family please let me know. My grandmother told me that Josephine's siblings married and stayed in MA,
all I know of them is the names she gave me: Jose(Joseph), Maria Lurdes, Francisca, and Antone(Anthony or Tony)

MY GREAT-GRANDPARENTS WERE BOTH FROM THE AZORES. THEY CAME OVER AND SETTLED IN FALL RIVER. THEY LIVED AT 79 & 83 HOLLAND STREET FALL RIVER FOR MANY YEARS. SOME INTERMARRIED WITH THE ROGERS, MELO, MACHADO FAMILIES IN FALL RIVER. GREAT GRAND FATHER WAS MANUEL MARTINS,
VICTORIA. THEY HAD MY GRAND FATHER ARTHUR HENRY MARTINS SR. HE MARRIED BERTHA AGNES BARILLIO-MARTINS AND THEY HAD MY DAD ARTHUR HENRY MARTINS JR. ON 1-13-20. HE MARRIED DORIS AGNES PATTON-MARTINS IN 1940 THEY HAD 3 CHILDREN. BARBARA IN 1941. SHARRON IN 1943, ME CRAIG IN 1959. I WAS THE ONLY ONE BORN OUT SIDE OF FALL RIVER. ARTHUR JR. ONCE RAN THE ELBE FILE & BINDERY UNTIL 1957, HE WAS VERY ACTIVE IN THE CITY OF FALL RIVER AND HE AND MY MOM LIVED AT 7 JONES STREET FALL RIVER. I KNOW A LOT MORE BUT THERE IS MUCH THAT I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THEM.

My great grandmother came from the Azores and her name was Louiza Martins...she came here with two small daughters in 1908...lived in PointReyes Ca. for many years. I have been trying to get her relatives in Portugal, Azores. could she be one of yours? I belive her married name was Martins, her maiden name was Soares
