This is a long shot, has anyone come across a John Charles Marchant also known as Joe Marchant also known as John Charles Denley. He was 41 years of age in 1939 and in South Africa. He was supposedly in the Merchant Navy UK and came from Bath. I have been searching for years, and have found nothing. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

It is more than likely. My Marchants are Alfriston and Eastbourne Tallow Chandlers for definite and Friston is pretty much in the middle. Any idea what the family trade was ? Regards. Marcus.

Dear Hazel,
If you pick this up, pls get in touch about how you got from Alfriston to Brighton. I have been making some progress around East Hoathly but would like to check a few things with you. Your email seems to have changed.
Best Wishes,
Marcus
