I am trying to locate the descendants of a forgotten Australia war veteran, so his grave can be properly marked with a headstone. I am hoping you can help. A request by a descendant is required. His descendants, all Victorians, were Mr. Tom Malone a nephew, Mr. Arthur James a nephew, Mrs. Lena Malone a sister-in-law and Mrs. A.E. James a niece. I need to make contact with one of their descendants.
The war veterans name was Michael Joseph Malone was born in County Clare, Ireland on January 7, 1826, conscripted on May 5, 1861 and mustered into Co. “D” Virginia 1st Battn. Infantry of the Confederate States of America, captured by Union forces at Woodstock, Virginia on May 2, 1862 and sent to the Union prison ‘Fort Delaware’ and Oo August 5, 1862 Michael was released under a prisoner exchange program and had to sign an “Oath of Allegiance” to the United States on May 13, 1865. Michael was married to Kathleen Maria Ferincola and they had a son they named Michael Christopher. Michael Joseph Malone at age 100 died in 1926 while living at the ‘Old Men’s Home’ and buried in Roman Catholic Portion of the Karrakatta Cemetery.
Anyone who can put me in touch with any of their descendants, please email me at jamesmgray@bigpond.com.
All help will be greatly appreciated.
