Margaret Mains McColaugh Lease - b. Dayton, Ohio

LEASE, Margaret McColaugh died peacefully at Springfield Regional Hospital on February 17, 2014 following a serious stroke. She was 87.

Margaret was born in Dayton, Ohio on July, 17, 1926 to Ella and Samuel Mains.
She had an older brother, Samuel and an older sister, Betty.

She fell in love with a fellow she met on a blind date and married Earl Leroy McColaugh on Valentine's Day in 1947.
Earl and Margaret had two children, Stephen and Debbie McColaugh, who now reside in Yellow Springs, Ohio.
Margaret was a lively and engaging soul who loved to sing and dance.
In the 1940s she was a singer with various Dayton and Cincinnati Big Bands.
She sang on numerous radio shows on WLW radio and was a regular soloist in her church choir. Family was extremely important to Margaret. She was generous to a fault, and took advantage of every gift-giving and card sending occasion she could find.

Margaret loved animals and had a huge heart for others who were in need.
She was an inveterate donor to causes large and small that pertained to the care of animals and the less fortunate.
She is survived by both of her daughter and granddaughter, Debbie McColaugh and Jennifer Robinow, her son and daughter-in-law, Stephen McColaugh and Kate LeVesconte, grandsons Will and Chris LeVesconte, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of grand-relatives.
Margaret's family will sorely miss her infectious laugh and joyous soul.

A private graveside service will be held Thursday, 2/20, in Bowersville, Ohio and an open memorial gathering will be planned for the springtime
. Memorial gifts can be made to either the Humane Society of Greene County, Ohio or Oesterlen Services for Youth. - See more at: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/springfield/obituary.aspx?n...

My condolences on the passing of William Mains. I stumbled upon your entry in Ancestry.com when looking for information on my ancestor William E Mains of Mckeesport (1841-1872?). The 1870 census shows he was married and had a daughter Naomi. Naomi was my great-grandmother and that would make William my great-great-grandfather. If you know any information about these two or wife/mother Celestia Anna Lynch, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Hi, I see over 5 years have passed, but thought I'd try this anyway. I don't have any info about Jesse Mains, just wanted to say that Jesse Mains was the brother of my ggg-grandmother. Her name, as I have it, was Jemima Catherine Mains, married to Milton Thompson Cole. Sounds like I already have the same info you do...also, other brothers of Jesse, and that Henry Mains remarried. Jemima's line went on to Kansas and then to Washington. How about Jesse's?

I haven't come across a David Mains in my tree yet - not to say I won't in time!
The earliest record I have is of Rbt in Lemington/Newburn NBL 1843, not sure if he was born in that area or not.
The family moved on to Newcastle way, & by 1879 Rbt's son, also a Robt, was in the Stockton/Hartlepool area DUR.
My line later moved down south to Bristol.
I shall keep your info in mind as I research & contact you if I find a connection.
Hi, I am researching the Mains family of Northumberland/Durham area. Having trouble going back further than Rbt b1822c, spouse Mary Jane MARTIN. I believe he had 4 children, one definite being Rbt b1855/56.

The father of Rbt b1822c was a John Main's but that is all I know.

I have plenty of info on other Main's descendants if anyone has a connection.

Cheers!
Col
Hello Deanna my name is Ruta Sandlin (Mains). I read your initial post & it turns out we have the same g-grandfather, John Wesley Mains. I have some info that goes past him & I tried emailing it to you with the last email address you gave but it was returned as un-deliverable. Since your last post was in 2005 I can only hope that you still get on here so you can get my message. If you'd like to email me so we can try to swap info on our family history you can reach me at rutasandlin@comcast.net.

Very interesting. My wife is a Main. Her Dad is Paul Johnson Main and her Grandfather (deceased) was a Presbyterian Minister in Olney, Illinois. My wife's Dad had a Great Uncle or such who owned a circus (the Walter Main Circus) where the tiger escaped and ate a lady's cow in Pennsylvania after a circus train wreck in the late 1800's.

I believe that Arthur Mains is my great-great grandfather who supposedly fathered a few children out of wedlock, even when he was very old. He died in his 90s. His mother was supposedly 100% Cherokee but I don't know her first name nor his father's. I've been looking and haven't found any information that matches. My great-grandmother was born with the name Oriental Mains (they called her Ory) in the mid 1870s. She later changed her first name to Betty. She has a sister named Ollie and five other brothers and sisters who all lived into their late 80s and 90s. My great-grandmother lived to be almost 105 years old and died in 1984 but no one is sure of her year of birth.

Hi,

I'm trying to track down Millie/Milly/Malinda Angie/Angline/Angeline/Angaline Meenus/Manis/Manes/Mains/Mannis. I have a birth date in TN of Oct 12, 1842. She married George Baine Bristow, had 9 kids, and eventually was buried in Grants Pass, OR.

I've seen the family information for Claibourn L. Manes and Sarah Sampley which lists a daughter named Malinda born about 1844. But sometimes that data shows the birth in Arkansas and one source shows that Malinda marrying a Fox and a Martin (evidently a fan of small furry creatures) but not a Bristow. On the 1880 census it shows her father as being born in TN and her mother in NC.

Can anyone help me confirm whether these Malindas are the same person or provide additional information?

Thanks,
Jeff

Katrina Mains Gaarde's mother's name was Anna Smit when she emigrated to Clinton circa 1880. Anna had been married to a John Mains in Denmark, and with him she had three girls, but John Mains died in Denmark. Anna remarried a man named Smit in Denmark, and I believe that the man named Smit also died in Denmark. Anna emigrated to Clinton along with the three daughters who carried the Mains surname but with no husband.

Jesse Peter Mains is the nephew of my GG Grandfather William Stephen Mains, son of Peter Franklin Mains, son of Philip Mains of Sussex Co NJ. I have a copy of Philips will of Oct 23 1824 stating Sarah Fortney receives $1.00. Of course neither Philip or Conrad Fortney who witnessed the will could read or write and signed their names with an X.

Some people believe this family came from Passaic Co NJ. However Passaic County was formed from parts of Bergen of Essex counties Feb 07, 1837.
Passaic town was chartered April 2nd 1873.
Write me rlmains@sbcglobal.net
