I am interested in Patrick SWINEY or SWEENEY's mother, Margaret MAHONY, who married John SWINEY on 9 Feb. 1865 in Inchigeelagh RC parish, with witnesses Pat SWINEY & Corn. SULLIVAN; location within parish: Cooroolough.

Here's Patrick's info, from the West Muskerry Births 1866-1872 [Quarterly civil birth registrations, as transcribed in Vol.7 of Casey]:

[Page 735] Inchigeela, Macroom, June 1870 quarterly births:
"3/5/70 Cleanrath Patrk. John Swiney, Farmer Mgt. Mahony"
[Note: interpreted as 3 May 1870]

This is quite likely the same Patrick reported baptized in Inchigeelagh RC parish, on 10 April 1870, with these godparents: Wm. KELEHER and Mary REARDON, with location Cleanrah, to parents John SWINEY & Margaret MAHONEY. [Also from Casey, in Vol. 11, Inchigeelagh RC baptisms.]

The difference in dates is probably due to avoidance of fines imposed on any births registered "too late." So we can speculate that Patrick SWINEY's actual birth date was 1 to 4 weeks, possibly more, before his 3 May 1870 baptism.

John SWINEY & Margaret MAHONY had at least 3 other children, all bapt. loc Cleanrath within Inchigeelagh RC parish:
Dennis SWINEY 4 Nov 1865; godparents Denis SWEENY, Cath. MAHONY
Jeremiah SWINEY 15 Jun 1867; godparents Pat. SWEENY. Nora MAHONY
Julia SWINEY 25 Nov 1868; godparents Jerh. MAHONY, Ellen SWINEY

Several other baptisms followed Patrick's, although not indexed in FHL Batch No. C700791 for Inchigeelagh RC. I found them by hunting after 1870 in Casey, Vol. 11, and will post them separately when time permits.
