Has anyone come across any Maher family members who might have joined the Royal Munster Fusiliers during World War 1?
My grandfather was a volunteer (1915?) He was unfortunate to lose a leg and an eye after a barrage and a mustard gas attack. Because he was Irish he received practically no disability pension or assistance, and went on to suffer from his wounds until his death in the 1960's.
I still remember sitting on his wooden leg and being fascinated by it, also when he washed his glass eye I was amazed and annoyed that I could not do the same.
