Magner Family of Roxbury/Boston Massachusetts

Hi, I am seeking info on my ggg grandparents, John D.MAGNER (b. 1824 in Ireland; d. 1887 Boston), and his wife Bridget MCDONALD (b. Ireland 1834; d. Boston 1904). According to censuses and city directories, John made a living as a a baker. Per his record of death (attached), his parents were John and Hannah. Bridget's father was Martin MCDONALD, according to her record of death (attached). I would specifically like to ascertain what county and township from which they emigrated. I found a passengers manifest (attached) on ancestry.com, which lists the following group of 4 people:
Dennis MAGNER: age : 50 occupation: baker born: Ireland
Honorah MAGNER age: 50; born: Ireland
John MAGNER: age 30; born: Ireland (no occupation stated)
Bridget MAGNER age : 22; born: Ireland
My hunch is that Dennis and Honorah are John's parents, and John and Bridget are husband and wife, married in Ireland. The fact that Dennis' occupation is stated as "baker" lends further credence to a family connection between he and John, I'm just not sure if they are father and son..
The record of death for John D. MAGNER names his father as John and his mother as Hannah.. I wonder if his father's name was John Dennis, and John D was a junior (which would account for the "D" as John D's middle initial),
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

FamilyTreeDNA $39 sale for male line test

FamilyTreeDNA.com is running a $39 sale for a basic test of male line Y-chromosome DNA. I encourage any male-line descendant MAGNER to take advantage of this sale. 12 markers can be a great first-step test, which you can later follow with upgrades for potentially more genealogical detail. My own Y-DNA pattern is uncommon, so any MAGNER who matches me 12 out 12 may be a valuable connection.

Here's the link:
http://www.familytreedna.com/landing/Y-DNA12-Promo.aspx

My own DNA test matched several men of Irish descent. My great-grandfather was adopted via Orphan Train, but his birth certificate listed a Dr. James MAGNER as his father. He then appeared on the 1900 census (in an orphanage) with the surname MAGHER. Due to transcription errors and spelling variation, possible surnames are Magner, Magher, Maher, or Mahar. His adoptive family believed the name was Wagner, but I find that to be the least likely.

Magner WILSON, form Ireland to NY City in 1840

He, a 50-year-old farmer from Ireland, and his family, including wife Barbara, 4 daughters and 2 sons, one named Robert, came across the Atlantic from Ireland to New York City as passengers aboard the Ship 'Kensington' which arrived in NY on 6 November 1840. By his given name, I suspect he had connections to the Magner clan back in Ireland. His son Robert was one of my father's paternal great grandfathers. I believe, and I am interested in learning specifically from where in Ireland this family originated. RSVP.
Bob Wilson Jr.
Beaufort SC USA

Several posts are discussed. Circa - 1870's - 1930. Azariah's children. Mainly Henry B's line in IA. His son John Harvey did go to MN for a short time. What area and who are are you currently researching? This family is the colonial Magner's. They left New England (N.E.) early. Most Magner's that are found in N.E. mid 1800's are newcomer's - Potato Famine era. Does this help? Let me know if you are researching colonial Magner's. Reva

Carole - Your Henry B. is Azariah's son. I don't know where the Jr. comes from, but Azariah's family spoke of Tama, Iowa, plus Henry B. and children. One of Azariah's grandson's Oliver Martin (1897 - 1982) spoke of Henry and listed some cousins as Harv, Hollie, Cleve and Laura. As you know these are four of Henry B's children. My mother last visited with Oliver either late 60's or early 70's. These cousins visited each other. They traveled Nebraska to Iowa (& Vice versa). Sarah Shaffer & Henry B. Magner raised a grandchild, Effie Rhita (dau of John Harvey). I think this Effie was named after John Harvey's cousin, Effa (dau of Henry B's sister, Nancy Magner and Richard Granderson). Effa, known as Effie, helped raise my father, James (son of Harriette Falley and William Nelson Magner). If I remember correctly, you descend from Henry B's son Hugh. I have some pictures that you might like. One picture sent to my grandparents has names Holli and Johnie on the back. Let me know if you are interested. Reva J. Fields
(I don't believe that I have your e-mail address anymore.)

Now - Frank and Alfred I've had in Omaha. Wasn't sure if both Franks were there or just Sylvanius's son. (I've been careful with Omaha names because of a Magner family currently there that arrived at a similar time which had split off quite a bit earlier, not Azariah's line. I've got some of their info, but had to be careful not to confuse things.) With tonight's find, I've decided that Azariah's Frank was not in Omaha. I have never found Azariah's Frank after the 1880 census. Tonight I located two WW1-Draft Registration cards. One card was Fred's (B. 1879). He was living in Lincoln. Wife - Ella. Also on 1920 census. Fred needs more work. The other card is Alfred's (B. 1880). Now I'm confident about Alfred. He lists his nearest relative as Frank Magner, nephew. These draft cards are saved as jpegs. If you would like them send your e-mail address. Reva
