No, I don't have acess to ancestry.com. But, I was always told that Addie's Mother was a Hensley before she married Sam Key. If you have any pictures or anything will u or could u please send to my email blackdove63@yahoo.com none of us know not even my Momma knows what Addie or her family looked like. My Momma had jet black curly hair with the greenest eyes looked spanish/indian something when my Momma married & went to live in Michigan they would not rent to her & my Daddy cause thought she was Mexican/indian/or black. So any info you can give me I would love told my Momma found someone who might be related to her and know what her momma looked like she was tickled. I live in Tennessee down toward Mecca/Tellico/Coker Creek. Where are you from or living?? Some people said Addie was from Bucktown or Huntsville

Your Grandma's birthdate matches up to our family tree. My daughter Theresa was answering you before. I believe that there is a double connection here.
Adaline (born 1868)Hensley (your great grandmother) was a sister to Kimbro Hensley Theresa's great, great grandfather).
Adaline married Samuel Key.
Kimbro married Mary Melvina McBee and lived in Lenior City.
Mary Melvina McBee had a brother Crawford McBee that married Tiny Bell Key. Tiny Bell's sister was Addie Key. Addie is living with Crawford and Tiny Bell McBee in the 1920 census. The McBee's were also known as Magby in some of the censuses.

Adaline, Kimbro and Tiny Bell (notice the name again)Hensley were children of James and Ellen Hensley. Do you have a subscription to ancestry.com? If so, you can see the pictures and the relationships posted on my family tree. http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/4862598/person/-1236097621
If you do not then email me and I will send you what I can.
My email address is: christine.c.taylor@gmail.com

okay, Im going to try and tell you this without confusing you.
Teeny (Key) McBee was your Grandma Addie Key's sister, her full name is Tiny Bell. They even lived in the same household in 1920. What was your mothers name?
Tiny Bell Married Crawford Mcbee, Crawford Mcbee is the brother of my Great Great Grandma. Mary Melvina Mcbee who married Kimbro Hensley. How did you think the last name Hensley was related to you? We have a book from the Hensley Chapel that lists your grandma and Tiny Bell being members there. Have you heard of the Hensley Chapel before?
Where do you live? Do you have an ancestry account where you can view family trees?
Write Back Soon

Any information would be welcomed we never knew our mamaws family. Only the step siblings (Moores). My Momma never knew her family, we tried to find out about them before my aunt & Uncle passed caused they wanted to know things but one passed in 2005 and the other in 2008 My Momma is the baby of the bunch and she isn't well. Thank you Hope to hear from you soon.

Hello,

I am descended from an Edwin Magby and Arnedia Owensby Magby. We know for sure that Arnedia grew up in Roanoke, Alabama and went to Peace and Goodwill Church. She met and married Edwin in Roanoke. They then moved to Atlanta, Georgia. I've been having problems finding information about Edwin. Edwin is the son of Thomas Magby who married an Indian woman named Alice Higgins. Please let me know if any of these names sound familiar.
Elon- spelmanangel06@aol.com

April,

If it's any consolation, your grandfather was not alone. There is a 2 hour PBS documentary on Hot Springs, Arkansas, very near where the Magby's lived, about those times. Hot Springs was safe-haven to some of the biggest gangsters in history. Almost everything in this tiny little town was illegal and completely condoned by law enforcement. If your g grandfather went to prison, you should check to see if he was in the company of the mayor, police chief, and sheriff. You might see things through different eyes, about your ancestor, if you researched what was considered "normal" in Hot Springs back then. It was a wild wild place.

I posted this on the Massengale query you had. I hope it helps. On the 1850 Hot Spring County, Hot Springs, Arkansas Charles Magby b. 1842-1843 in Alabama is listed. He is the son of David Magby b 1795 and wife Betsy. There were at least 2 brothers (David and Robert) and at least 5, what I presume to be nephews, of those men who all came to Arkansas at the same time from Alabama. Those 5 brothers may be the children of William, but there is no record of him in Arkansas by the 1850 census. Perhaps he died here before the census.

Maxwell McBEE pronounced MAGBY

Good evening. I'm from Greenville, SC (actually a little town outside of it called Travelers Rest). I was originally born Jason McBee or as we say in the Upstate, "Magby - you have to prolong the "a" sound. I'm not familiar with your g grandfather but the names you list are common in my family plus we have the 5 year thing too. Don't know if it is coincidence or not. My g g grandfather's name was Maxwell McBee. He raised my grandfather along with my grandfather's uncles. I'll see if I can dig anything up on your g grandfather and maybe you may have some information about the McBee's of South Carolina. Thank you for your time and patience.

Still searching for siblings of Alexander Magby*Mcbee ?) born in 1813 in Alabama. Also any info on his wife, Francis (possibly Sullivan) born in 1816 in South Carolina. I have information that the father of Alexander was William McBee b. abt 1781 in South Carolina, but I've not seen proof. I have a list of William's children, but I'd like to see something positive. Alexander Magby's (McBee ?) younger children were born in Arkansas (including my gg grandfather John David Magby b. 1849). Mrs. Alexander Magby (Francis ?) died and Alexander moved on to Texas with some of the youngest children.

The list of siblings I have is as follows. It seems odd that a child was born only every 5 years. One last clue; the name "Alexander Magby or McBee" is from a distant cousin I found online while researching. My great grandmother told her children that her father in laws name was Silas Alexander Magby, but the website list the name as John Alexander Magby.

Alexander McBee ?>Magby b. 1813 Alabama
William McBee b. 1818 Al.
Samuel McBeeb. 1823 Al.
Silas McBee b. 1828 Al.
James McBee b. 1834 Al.
April McBee b. ?
unknown daughter McBee b. ?

Thanks for the help,
Karen

Catherine MAGBY b. c1824 IN d. 1894 IL m. William Franklin DODGE b. c1819 PA d. 1894

I am looking to connect with my Magby family line. My 3 gr grandmother was Catherine. And, although three names have been suggested as her possible last name, the most likely name is Magby. I would like to confirm this one way or another.

This is the information that I do have is as follows:
Catherine, (aka Katherine, Cate, or Kate) was born about1824 in Indiana, possibly Fort Wayne. She died 10 Oct 1894 in IL. Catherine married William Franklin Dodge. He was b. about 1819 in Pennsylvania; d. 11 Nov 1894.

William and Catherine/Katherine are located in the 1850 and 1860 census records. In 1850 they are in Whiteside, IL. Two lines above where they are listed in 1850 is a listing for a Lydia Magby, age 27, Sarah Magby age 4, Eben Dodge, age 20, Henrietta Dodge age 11, Eli Dodge age 12 and Rhoda Dodge age 2. There appears to be some relation to my William Dodge/ Catherine Magby line but have not made the connection.

The 1960 census shows William and Catherine in Mount Pleasant, Whiteside, IL. Lydia Magby is also listed in Mount Pleasant.

Children of William and Catherine:
Columbus 1844-1883
Elizebeth 1845-
J.M. or James Manning 1848-1885
Pardon M. (Pardon McCumber) 1850-1922
Ellen E. per 1860 census (my records show Elwin Ersdale 1853-?)
Sarah Dema aka Sarah Jo Dema 1855-?
Althea Alicia aka Adelia Alicia 1860-1934
Willie (William) Lincoln 1866-?

All the children were born in Lyndon, Whiteside Co., IL.

I am interested in finding Catherine’s parents and/or siblings. Also, I have no ancestral information on William F. Dodge, aka William Franklin, W.F.
Thanks
Diane

There is a James Magby still living in Camden AR, according to Pipl.com. Lucille Clayborn is a bit more difficult, because she could have married and changed her surname. There is one Lucille Clayborn in the Social Security Death Index ( http://ssdi.rootsweb.com ) but she's much too old to be your friend's mother (born 1911). Have you gone to the courthouse and searched for the marriage record for Lucille?

Have you or your friend posted all the relevant details on the major adoption connection boards? This needs some updating, but perhaps some of the links here will help you out: http://valoriez.blogspot.com/2004/01/adoption.html

All the best,

Valorie

I found a WWI Registration Card from 1917 that had a Walter Magby but that is as far as it goes. I am trying to find court documents on him from early 1900s. Im glad to know there are more Magbys out there. For so long I didnt think there were anymore.LOL

My father is Bobby Joe Magby. His father is Faye Joe Magby. and Faye fathers name was Walter Magby. The only information I could ever get about Walter was that he wasnt a very good man, his family never talked about him much. He was supposedly workin for a mob in the early 30's. I do believe the Walter Arthur Magby you speak of is my great grandfather. My father said he died in his 40s while he was in prison. Faye Magby died last year and my father is about to be 51 on the 13th of this month. Im glad you wrote back. Hope to hear more soon. Have a great day.
April-Louisiana

Alice Magby, b. NC>Chickasaw Co., MS--1850's

I am looking for anyone who can tell me something about Nancy Hiner and Alice Magby who lived in Palo Alto, Chickasaw Co., Mississippi at the time of the 1860 census.

Nancy Hiner is listed as a farmer, Age 57, and born in Georgia. In her household the only other persons are three children who had the Warren surname:

John Warren, Age 9, b. MS
Rhody Warren, Age 7, b. MS
Lester Warren, Age 5, b. MS

Next door is a family headed by an Alice Magby, age 58 and born in North Carolina. She is also evidently a widow as she is given the occupation of farmer. Alice has three of her own children--Vardry Magby, Age 35; Walter Magby, Age 22; and Kate Magby, Age 20. Also in this household are three more Warren surnamed children:

Vardry Warren, Age 19, b. MS
Lydia Warren, Age 14, b. MS
Alice Warren, Age 12, b. MS

Are these two sets of Warren's siblings? Note that the unusual name of Vardry occurs in both the Warren and Magby children.

I would like to know how both of these women came to be what appears to be guardians of the Warren children. There is no apparent trace of any of these people, except John Warren, in the 1870 and later cenusues. I am trying to establish the identity of the parents of John Warren.

Thanks

Hi Karen,
My family is Magby from Arkansas. I was born in Alleene which is close to Ashdown and Foreman. I've done a little research since I found a Vardey Magby in a book listing Revolutionary War pensioners. I later found him at the age of 102 living with Robert Magby (spelled Magbly in an 1840 census list)in Walker COunty, Alabama. My grandfather was Lois Magby, Great-grandfather was Jake P Magby, born 1868. Do you recognize any of these names. I have been unable to get from Jake to Vardey.
We must be cousins some place down the line.

Looking forward to hearing from you. email dvsbus@sbcglobal.net

Jan

I am the great granddaughter of the Walter Magby from Bismark, Arkansas that is mentioned as a possible link. This is not the same Walter, of this I am absolutely positive. I did find another Walter, Walter Henry Magby. I also found Jake (Jacob)that the writer of the post was searching for. He is the son of David Magby b.1819 Alabama (1850,1860,1870 Arkansas Census)All of these families, it seems, are related because they all traveled at the same time to Arkansas. The older children were born in Alabama, the younger in Arkansas. Robert Magby, b. 1784 SC, is also with these families. Though they are listed in separate counties, they are all on the county borders, very near each other. ..
Karen, Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Your Jesse Franklin Magby b. 1895 in Texas, is the son of Wesley Magby from Arkansas. Wesley was the son of John Alexander Magby b. 1813 in Alabama. Alexander took his younger children to Texas abt 1872-1874. They are closely tied to the Pullins, Massengales, and Angermillers in Bee, Live Oak and Karnes Counties. I belive Jesse's mother was a Ricks, and the step daughter of Wm. Riley Massengale. Jesse's uncle, William Martin Magby married Martha Massengale.

April,
I have a jpeg image of the family page from the bible of your great- great- great- grandparents John David Magby and Mary Jane Lancaster. I also have a piece of an audio tape that my great grandmother made before her death years ago, which tells of your gg grandfather and his children. Write me at Klyn040@aol.com and I'll send you the bible page, but I don't know how to transfer this tape. Someone copied it for me and uploaded it to the computer. I'll give you whatever I have. Karen

I don't know of the "Magby's" in SC, BUT, John Alexander Magby / McBee married Francis C Sullivan or Brown who was born in South Carolina. I do not know which state they married in, but their older children were born in Alabama, before the family moved to the Point Cedar, Arkansas area.

Catherine Magby's parents were James Magby born in Virginia in 1784. He married Elizabeth (I have yet to learn her last name) who was born in Kentucky in 1792. James died in Galena, Jo Daviess, Illinois 11 July 1855. His will can be found at the Jo Daviess Genealogy web site. Elizabeth died 10 May 1870 and is either buried in Jo Daviess, Illinois or in LaFayette County, Wisconsin. In addition to Catherine their other children were Narcissa who married George Love; Barbara who married Patrick Collagan; Artemisa who never married, Nicholas who married Hannah Graham; James who married Lydia B.Smith Dodge (Eben Dodge, etc. are her children by a first marriage to John B. Dodge); Mary Ann who married James Algar;Nancy who married a Murray; and Manning who I don't believe ever married. Catherine and William F. Dodge were divorced sometime after the 1860 census. I believe that I found her in 1870 and she is listed as divorced. William F. Dodge goes on to marry a Minerva Jane Jarvis Inskeep. She too must be divorced because her children are all Inskeep and her first husband, Joel Milton Jarvis remarries. He is a Methodist minister. Yet, both Minerva and Joel are buried in Vinton, Benton, Iowa. James and Elizabeth probably lived in Bureau County, Illinois in 1831-1833.

Catherine Magby was born in Indiana to James and Elizabeth Magby (I don't know Elizabeth's maiden name) James was born in Virginia and Elizabeth in Kentucky. James was born in 1784 and died 11 July 1855 in Galena, Jo Daviess, Illinois. Elizabeth was born in 1792 and died in Galena 10 May 1870. The children of James and Elizabeth are
1. Narcissa Magby b. 1810, Kentucky and married George Love
2. Artemisa Magby b. 1812 Kentucky - she never married
3. Barbara Magby b. 21 Jan 1815 Kentucky and married Patrick Colligan (also found as Collogan)
4. Catherine Magby b. 1823 Indiana and married to William Fr. Dodge. In the 1880 census I found found Catherine Dodge who was divorced. Also, I found William F. Dodge in Davis County, married to Minerva Jane Jarvis who had been the wife of Joel Milton Inskeep. Minerva died 6 Sep 1900, in Vinton, Benton, Iowa. I'm not sure about William.
5. Mary Ann Magby b. 1824 in Wisconsin and married James Alger. They died in Wisconsin.
6. Nancy Magby b. 1825 in Jo Daviess, Illinois and married a man by the name of Murray.
7. Manning Magby b. 1834 in West Galena, Jo Daviess, Illinois. I can find no records of marriage.
8. Nicholas Graham b.1835 in West Galena, Jo Daviess, Illinois. He married Hannah Graham in West Galena and he died 29 Apr 1915 in Belmont, LaFayette, Wisconsin
9. Unknown (anyway to me)Magby who was the spouse of Lydia and the father of Sarah Elizabeth Magby. Sarah Elizabeth is mentioned in her grandfather's (James Magby) will. I hope this will help you and just toss it out if you already have the information. I would be glad of any information you might have regarding the Magby family. I am not a relative, but a close friend of Nicholas Magby's decendants.

James Magbee/Magby b. 1784 in Virginia and died 11 July 1855 in West Galena, Jo Daviess County, Ill. and Elizabeth (last name unknown)b, 1792 in Kentucky and died 10 May 1870 in Galena, Jo Daviess, Ill. They had the following children:
Narcissa who married George Love
Barbara who married Patrick Colligan/Collogan
Mary Ann who married Frank Algar
Nancy who married Mr. Murray
Artemisa who never married
James who was married to Lydia B. Smith Dodge. Her first husband was John Dodge and I believe he was no relation to William F. The children in the census are her's from the first marriage. James and Lydia had only one child, Sarah Elizabeth and she was born about 1846. James was dead by the 1850 census. Sarah is mentioned in her grandfather James Magbee/Magby's will along with all of his other children.
Manning who never married
Nicholas who married Hannah Graham. They had a large family and still have descendants who live in Northwest Ill. and Southwest Wis.
I believe that Catherine was born 1823 in New Albany, Floyd, Indiana. She died 10 Oct 1894 in Morrison, Whiteside, Ill. She and William F. Dodge were divorced sometime after 1860 and I believe that he went to Davis County Iowa and married Minerva Jarvis Inskeep.
Catherine and William F. Dodge's son, Columbus,b.1844 was killed during the Civil War, 4 May 1862 and never married.
Charles b.1841 died 3 may 1852 in Morrison, Whiteside, Ill and I don't know if he was married.
Sarah b. 1855 married Charles Upton
Adelia b. 28 Mar 1860 Morrison, and d. 3 Feb 1934 in Sacramento, Calif. She was married to Oliver Perry Saylor
Pardon was born Aug 1850 and died 1922 in Hamilton, Butte, Calif. His wife's name was Minnie.
Elizabeth b. Feb 1845 married Freeman B. McClintock
James b. 1848 and died 1885 was married to Abbie L. Upton a sister to Charles Upton who married Sarah.
Ellen was born in 1853
William L. was born in 1866
All of the Children were born in Morrison, Whiteside, Ill.
If you go to the GenWeb site for Jo Daviess County, Ill you can find James Magbee/Magby's will. The reason I've used two spellings is that his tombstone reads Magbee, but the family used Magby. Hope this helps you.

This past summer I went to Jo Daviess county and looked at Manning Magby's estate records. He was a brother to Catherine and he died in Nov. 1870. He died without a will. There was a letter from Catherine and her lawyer in the records. In the letter she states that she does not need to have her husband sign for her share of the estate as she was in the process of divorcing him.
Also, Sarah Elizabeth Magby, daughter of Lydia is the son of James Magby, brother of Catherine, who died shortly after Sarah's birth. Lydia was married to a John Dodge, who I believe is no relation to William. Lydia's maiden name was Smith.
Hope this helps. If you know of Elizabeth Magby's maiden name I would certainly like to know it. Thanks
