Dear Alice,
In the census of 1870 for Chambers county I found a John Magby, I did not make note at the time of whether he was white or black. In the census of 1860 I found Rebecca Magbee, age 73 who was born in Georgia, I believe she was the widow of Labon Magbee. With her is listed a John W. Magbee, age 40, possibly her son and possibly the same John Magby found later in 1870. Another household in 1870 lists William L. Magbee, age 38, born in Georgia, his wife Mary 38, born in South Carolina, children John, age 15, Milton, 13, Judith 10, sarah, 7, Wm. L., 5, Albert J., 3, and Mary W., 6 months, all born in Alabama
