Have you in your search seen any information on a Magby name Amelia .Or any Magbys located in South Carolina? I am looking for my gggrandmother

Maranda, tell us more about your great-great-grandmother. Who did she marry, and when? Do you have her death record? Which censuses do you find her in, and what are her children's names?

Don't forget to look at different spellings. My McBees supposedly once spelled the surname Magby, although I haven't found the records proving that, yet. You might find some help on the McBee list -- look at Links and Announcements on this board for more information.

Sorry there was one g too many.Amelia was my great grandmother.Magby was her maiden name, married name was Chisolm
She was African American.She had a sister Mary and two brothers Peter and Gustie(may be the other's name).Amelia's mother's name was Celia? They lived in South Carolina.Amelia died in1950.

I can't recall the exact surnames, but you might search the archives of McBee-L. A few months back there was mention of some black McBees, from slavery up through modern times.

I believe you will find the name changed about 1810 to 1830 from Magby to McBee . Hope to hear from you .

I am now wondering if your Magby was Afro-American?
If not maybe you know of a slave ownership that may have a Magby connection. Any help would be appreciated.
