My ancestors came from near Gairloch, Scotland. John, who had a son, Duncan, who had a son John, who had several children one of whom was Alexander (b. 11/15/1870 ) and was my Grandfather. Any one doing research on this family... I would love to compare notes.

Have a look at http://www.vianet.net.au/~cordate/32.html and let me know if we're related.

HMMMM. I would guess that we are. Gairloch is not all that big of a community and the dates follow closely those that I have been able to find. My guess is that our trees are beginning with a sibling or cousin. Many of the same names follow and the dates are within a decade of each other with the families.

Noticed your stuff on McLeans from Gairloch. McLean was not an uncommon name and Gairloch was a reasonably populous area. I have a McLean who married my g-g-gAunt Lilais Cameron in Nov 1890. He was a shepherd living in Letterewe. Good luck in your searching.

Thanks. I think I may have stumbled across a lead. I wrote all the McLean's in the area around where my ancestors came from. There were six. I received a reply from one with his tree, but no match. Then a few months later I received a letter from a 90 yr. old lady in a nursing home. She thinks my gggfather and hers are the same. Her grandfather was a sibling to my ggfather. We are doing the research nowand it loks promising.

Jim, would you have a John McLean from Gairloch on your family tree who married Alexandrina Fraser on 18 July 1818? I believe they had three children: Jessie Anne, born 1825; Murdoch and Ann. Jessie married Lewis MacBean on 8 June 1848 in Inverness. I would appreciate any leads you can give me. Beverley
