Surnames: Lynd Tamlaghtmore Nr Cookstown
Hello, My maiden name is Lynd and my grandfather was born in Co Londonderry but the family moved to Antrim just before 1900. Do you know if any of your local Lynds are related to a Hugh Lynd who died in 1898 and lived at Tamlaghtmore? Hugh would be my great great grandfather.I think his grandson Robert took over farming there, after his grandfather died, and his son Thomas was farming at Moneyquiggy Ballynascreen Co Londonderry..

Brenda- you've mentioned Kevan's book several times but I'm unable to contact you. Please get in touch as we are related through Andrew Lynd of Knockaduff.

Brenda,
If you are still out there; James and Margaret Lynd are my gg grandparents. James was born in New York and Margaret in Ireland. One of those many sons was William Augustus Lynd and he was my great grandfather. He married Nettie Smart and their daughter was my grandmother, another Margaret who in turn married Thomas Lovelace. Have information on the brothers, John, James, Andrew, Alex, William, Robert and Sam. There was also as you stated a lone daughter named Margaret. The older children were born in Canada before the family moved to Sanilac County, Michigan. I would loved to exchange inforamtion with you as it is obvious that we are related on some level.
Look forward to reply, Lynda

I am descended from Peter Keyser Lynd, who was one of the founders of the Brethren Church in Germantown, Pennsylvania.
I believe that this line of "Lynds" came from the area of Cookstown, County Tyrone. I believe his brother, James Lynd, was a Pennsylvania attorney and judge in the Philadelphia, PA area. Also, family lore has it that James Lynd, a descendant of this James Lynd, was a fighter pilot who was shot down and killed in the Pacific area in WW II? Also, family lore has it that another Lynd relative was a gold prospector in Nevada in the early 1900's. Anyone have any connections with any of this?

My James Lynd left Genesee County, NY and settled in Ontario then later to Sanilac County, Michigan. They were in the lumber business. I do not however know the names of James' siblings only that his parents were James and Mary.
A descendant of James (Grandson) was a pilot in WWII and was shot down in the Pacific Ocean and believed captured or dead, but survived and went on to become a General (Elmer Lynd.) One of James son was a prospector in California and Oregon.
Some similarities but not sure if the two families are connected. Would be nice if a connection could be made from the information we possess. I have much more history if anything sounds promising to you, I'll be happy to answer any questions I can. By the way James' wife was Margaret and she came from Ireland with her parents Andrew and Margaret (Perry) Lynd in 1848.

Lynda:
Thanks for your reply and I'll bet we do have a "connection."

My grandmother(paternal) was Clementine Keyser Lynd (daughter of Peter Keyser Lynd) and she married my grandfather, Samuel Tyson Kinsell; my father, Lynd Tyson Kinsell, was born to this couple in April, 1899.

I have some old Bible notes indicating a friendship or family relationship between my grandmother above and a "Clemmie" Fobes who was apparently from the area of Buffalo, NY (next to Genese County) - - - I'll look it up and try to send you the details.

I will also mention that my grandfather referenced above had literary talents and wrote at least one poem ("The Prisoner," as I recall) published by The Roycrofters Press in East Aurora, NY.

Well, not a great deal, but at least it's a beginning.

My best regards,

Tyson,
Thanks and if there is a connection that what be awesome. We can work both ends and hopefully meet in the middle. If I find anything I let you know the details as well.
Thanks and happy hunting.

Lynda W. (by the way the 'Lynd' in Lynda is a tribute to my paternal grandmother Margaret Elizabeth Lynd, daughter of William Augustus and Nettie Cordelia Smart. Just a bit of trivia.

Lynda,
I am located in New Jersey, USA and located pretty close to the Philadelphia, PA area where most of my Lynd ancestors lived.

Do you have any connections to CLEMENS, KEYSER, TYSON families?

Also, can you tell me the area where you are presently located?

Thanks,

Tyson ("Ty")
