For over 30 years I have been trying to find out what happened to my grandfather, Owen A. Lynch who left his home at 15 Abbott Street, Lynn, MA in 1911, leaving a and wife, MaryAnn (Rafferty) Lynch, and three children and was not heard from again. I do not know the reasons or circumstances that caused him to leave. My father, Arthur F. Lynch was his son. He had another son, James Lynch who died of Tuberculosis in 1920 at age 25. His third child was Mary Lynch Byrne. James and Mary were my uncle and aunt.
Owen A. Lynch was born in 1872 in Eighter, Ireland, County Cavan and lived in Old Castle, Ireland, County Meath until he was about 8 years old and then he came to Boston with his mother and four of his siblings in 1883. His father, James had come to NY from Ireland in 1882 and stayed one year in the USA, then settled in Truro, Nova Scotia. Owen and his mother, Annie and his siblings joined the father in Nova Scotia. Owen stayed in Nova Scotia until 1889, when he settled in Lynn, MA. He became a naturalized citizen on September 24, 1894 in Lynn, MA.
My grandfather’s parents were James Lynch and Annie Mitchell, both of whom are buried in Truro, Nova Scotia, along with their son, James, my great uncle. There were thirteen children in my grandfather’s family. In 1910 when my great grandfather, James J. Lynch died there were six children still living, namely Kate Lynch in California, Anne Lynch in Boston, Julia Lynch in Bangor, Maine, James Lynch in New York, Peter Lynch in Brooklyn, NY, and my grandfather, Owen in Lynn, MA. My great uncle, Peter Lynch had 10 children. One of his daughters was Nora who married a Louis Butler of Connecticut and they retired to Florida. Nora was born in 1915 and died in 1999 in Florida. Nora corresponded with my mother, Louise Lynch, for many years up until 1988.
