Anna Lybrook was born in 1855 in or around Cleveland, OH. Her mother may have died around 1860. Her father served in the Civil War. He apparently sent Annie and her brother westward with a family named Shanks. When they got to the Osage River near Warsaw, MO, they either met with foul play or an accident and Mrs. Shanks and Annie's brother (maybe) drown. Mr. Shanks apparently abandoned Annie on the riverbank. She eventually lived as a foster child of John and Nan Stewart. I have never found any references in family history of Annie's father's name. She named her sons -- John James and Robert Junior.
