Hi Colin
My name is John Dunn and my gg-grandmother was a LYALL. her family were from East Lothian and for some generations they lived in the area, including Haddington.
Our family goes back to Petrick LYLE b.(circa) 1721. his son William LYAL (one 'L') b 1746. His son Alexander LYALL (two 'L')b. 1774.
Our LYALL's grew up and were centres around the east Lothians. Alexander's son, Geore LYALL b. 1798, did move to Caithness and the Orkney area for some years but eventually returned to run the family farm (at age 50 years) uponn the death of his father and brother (William b.1805)
One of the sons of the family my ggg-grandfather left the UK aged 20years and sought his fortunes in the Victorian Gold Rush of 1851 (Australia)
Would like confirmation (Yes/No) as to any connection and would love to swap any relevant information
Kind Regards
John E Dunn
