My name is Pam Thorson and I’m a Stevens descendant. I was researching the family history when I came across your 2002 post on Roger Stevens. My grandmother was Jennetta (nee Stevens) Soyk (1907-1972). In her later years, she remarried and had the last name of Faubion. She was a daughter of Henry Eliakum Stevens (1871-1948) and Pearl Mabel Buck. According to my research, Henry Eliakum Stevens was the son of Eliakum Stevens (1827-1902) and Rachel Emily Smith. Eliakum Stevens was the son of Henry Stevens (1798-1857) and Hannah Green (or Jones). Henry was the son of Roger Stevens (1761-1841) and Esther Snow.
My father, James Soyk, Sr., remembers Henry Eliakum Stevens with much affection. Henry loved boxing, and I have a picture of him as an elderly man feigning a boxer’s pose for the camera. He kept bees, and Dad called him “the beehunter.”
I remember Grandma Jean (Jennetta) telling us that Thaddeus Stevens was an uncle, but I’ve been unable to make the connection so far. Do you know anything about a family connection to the famous member of the House of Representatives by that name?
Have you been able to find out anything more about Roger Stevens’ parents? If there’s a way to obtain a copy of the family history by Mildred Stevens Anderson, I’d be glad to pay for a copy of the book.
