To Pat and Albert and anyone else,
I found my Luscher connection... My Otto Bruno Luscher was born in Posen, Germany 1862 - His Father was most likely Anton Luscher- The Luscher's in that area spelled it Leuschner - and there is a listing on the Mormon site for Anton in Lissa, Posen, Germany (now part of Poland) he immigrated to US in November 1914 - I have yet to find the right spelling to pull it up on that Dumb Ellis Island site- I know the date he arrived and the ship, The Philadelphia and the Port of Departure; Liverpool , England and arrival was in New, York - and yet I can't pull up him- or the passenger list for the Philadelphia, I had been led to believe that there was a good possibilty my Otto Bruno Luscher was yours, Pat and Albert- They might have been cousins(still a possibility) I was told by other members of the Luscher family in New Jersey, that the Luscher's in Arganau, Switzerland were Hugonauts that emmigrated from Germany- but I don't know where. From what I have been reading the last two days Posen Germany was smack dab in the middle of political hot potatoe as it passed from Prussia under William II, to Germany, back to (now) Poland, The German's tried many ways to Force Germans to settle in the area, and supress the national ethnicity of Polish- School children were beaten to recite the Lord's prayer in German up until the early 1900's. Right now I am really in disarray about my Otto, I was brought up believing from my Mom that he was born in Alsace Lorraine, but he wasn't. I don't have a year for immigration out of Germany, and I don't know Anton's wife's name. So I am very confused whether we are really german or Polish, depending how long the ancestors lived in the Providence of Posen, Germany/Poland. I have also read that after the defeat of Napolean, Prussia started to rebuild it's army and was trying to manditorily enlist many young Germans. Having just lost sons to Napolean's conflict, many decided to flee the area and leave Germany, giving up land etc. Some of these people went west farther into what is now Russia and other's fled Eastward into West Germany. Still other's fled altogether. I found on the web a name of a free look-up person who specializes in the Posen area, so I am praying she can help me. Each answer in Genealogy leads only to more questions, you have to love it ro you'd be crying most of the time. Pat and Albert I found a very good piece on the founders of Montvale , New Jersey, and the "John Luscher's" were in it. I think I just typed in Luscher/ Montavale Germany- something like that. Pat, my regular email address is crashed but will be back up today, email me when you get this... Sue Bushinski bushinski@cox.net
