Surnames: Orthoefer, Lusch, Pifher
Hi Tom! Never thought I'd get a response on this one because both surnames are so uncommon and there seemed to be no trace of any descendants. Well let me explain how I fit into the family. I am a very collateral descendant. Your mother's maternal grandfather, John Pifher, was the brother of my great-great-grandmother, Mary Catherine (Pifher) Schott. I decided to post here because I've been able to find very little info on the Orthoefer line of John Pifher's family. What I know is this...

John Pifher's eldest daughter was Matilda Anna ("Tillie") Pifher. She was born on July 14, 1869 in Auburn Township, Crawford County, Ohio. On November 28, 1899 in North Auburn, Ohio she married George Victor Orthoefer of Columbus, Ohio. He had been born in 1862. They had the following children:

1. George Orthoefer, born 1901
2. Pauline (Orthoefer) Decker, born 1902
3. Joseph Orthoefer, born 1905
4. Victor Orthoefer, born 1907, died 1910
5. John Orthoefer, born sometime before 1910, died 1915
6. Loretta (Orthoefer) Stout, born 1911
7. Josephine (Orthoefer) Lusch, born 1914 <--your mother

The Orthoefers lived in Columbus, George dying in 1915 and Tillie living on until 1936. Beyond this, I have very little.

Would you and your family be at all interested in collaborating on genealogy? I don't really have anything farther back on the Orthoefers (though I could probably do a little work on them in exchange if you'd like), but I have some really extensive info on the Pifher family of Tille Orthoefer. I even have a photograph that you might be interested in--the Wedding Portrait of George and Tillie Orthoefer outside of Mother of Sorrows Church in North Auburn (with much of Tillie's family).

If you and your sister (whose message I saw below yours) would like to be involved, please contact me at my email address listed in my profile. I'd love to hear back from you!
