Here is some food for thought. We know our George, who died in West New York, New Jersey on May 15, 1900, was born Jan. 31, 1812 in England. In the Mormon’s IGI there is a baptism for a George Lurcott March 30, 1812 in Kidderminster, Worcester Co., England to Joseph and Elizabeth Lurcott. There are no other George Lurcott entries for this time period. I ordered, and read through, several rolls of microfilm.
The following entries were found in Kidderminster, Worcester Co., England:
A) Joseph Lurcott married Jane Cooke on May 16, 1785, with the following results:
Joseph baptized Jan. 11, 1786 (the vicar writes his “L†like an “Sâ€, so “Joseph Surcott†appears in the IGI)
William baptized May 4, 1787, and was buried July 11, 1804.
Thomas baptized June 20, 1790, and was buried Sept. 27, 1791.
Richard baptized June 20, 1790, and was buried Sept. 24, 1791.
Hannah baptized May 18, 1792, and was buried June 5, 1794.
John born Aug. 25, 1793, baptized Sept. 27, 1793, and was buried April 3, 1794.
Mary baptized Aug. 19, 1796 (possibly the Mary Lurcott who married John Boraston Nov. 7, 1814)
Jane Lurcott, living on Fish Street, died at 77 years of age, was buried May 14, 1824 (this is the only Lurcott burial entry from 1813-1868)
Joseph Lurcott, a weaver living in the borough at Kidderminster, died on Nov. 12, 1839 at 77 years of age from decay of nature. The informant was Joseph Lurcott, present at death. (I obtained this death certificate from the GRO in London, England)
Side note: There is a baptism for a Joseph Lurcott Jan. 18, 1762 in Leominster, Hereford Co., England, son of John Lurcott and Mary Evans, who married in Feb. 14, 1758 in Leominster. Other children of John and Mary in Leominster were: Francis baptized April 1, 1759 (no burial entry found); John baptized Sept. 28, 1760; Thomas baptized July 24, 1763; and Francis baptized April 28, 1765. There is a burial for a Mary Lurcott Aug. 3, 1765.
B) Joseph Lurcott (son of Joseph and Jane?) married Elizabeth Doolittle on Sept. 22, 1809, with the following results:
William born July 21, 1810, and baptized Aug. 13 1810.
George baptized March 31, 1812. (there is no mention of a birth date on the microfilm, but our George was born Jan. 31, 1812)
Mary baptized Aug. 31, 1814, father a weaver living on Fish Street.
Sarah baptized Feb. 7, 1817, father a weaver living on Fish Street.
John baptized Dec 27, 1819, father a weaver living on Fish Street.
Elizabeth baptized May 27, 1822, father a weaver living on Fish Street (appears as “Lincott†in the IGI).
Ann baptized Aug.26, 1825, father a weaver living on Fish Street.
Ellen baptized April 30, 1828, father a weaver living on Lion Field.
Joseph Lurcott, a rug manufacturer at 75 Shaftesbury Street in Hoxton New Town, London, died on March 29, 1844 at 58 years of age from pulmonary consumption. The informant was Wm. Lurcott of 2 Cavendish Street, Hoxton New Town, London, present at death. (I obtained this death certificate from the GRO in London, England)
Our George and Ann Lurcott baptized daughter Elizabeth on Aug. 21, 1842 in Christ Church, Hoxton, London. George is listed as a tailor living at 11 Shaftesbury Street.
A William and Mary Ann Lurcott baptized sons Joseph, William George, and Edwin all on April 30, 1843 in Christ Church, Hoxton, London. William is listed as a carpenter living at 2 Cavendish Street.
My next search is for these folks in the London 1841 census. But I already feel very good about these folks as our George’s family.
