DURHAM - Gladys Card Luquire, a Durham native, died Tuesday, October 17, 2006, in Columbus, Ga., following an extended illness of more than three years. Her death occurred just one month before her 92nd birthday.
Mrs. Luquire and her late husband, Lloyd C. Luquire, relocated to Columbus in 1988. She was active well into her eighties; serving on the staff of Brentwood Publishers Group until the week she entered the hospital.
Mrs. Luquire was a graduate of the Watts Hospital School of Nursing, Durham, NC, where she worked in the newborn nursery for over 25 years. A faithful and devout Christian, Mrs. Luquire was among the early members of the former Holloway Street Christian Church, now known as Robbins Road Christian Church.
In addition to her immediate and extended family in Georgia and Alabama, she is survived locally by a sister-in-law, Mrs. Eleanor C. Luquire; Durham, NC, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 25, 2006, at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Durham, NC, with the Reverend Laura Mahn officiating.
Friends may visit Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home.
