Milton H. “Milt” Lupean, age 90,
formerly of 80 Howard St., Fredonia,
died Wednesday (Feb. 20, 2008)
at the Chautauqua County Home.
A lifelong resident of Fredonia,
he was born Dec. 8, 1917,
the son of the late Harry and Louise (Salhoff) Lupean.
Mr Lupean served in the United States Air Force
from 1944 to 1947.
He had been employed by the Fredonia Censor
until it closed and the Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corporation. He became a master carpenter and was employed by several local contractors.
At the end of his career,
he was an independent contractor.
He built his own home at 80 Howard St.
Mr. Lupean was a member of the Fredonia Presbyterian Church, American Legion and the Fredonia Fire Police, where he served for many years as an auxiliary policeman for the village of Fredonia.
For many years, Milton dedicated much of his time voluntarily maintaining the grounds at Russell Joy Park.
In addition to his time,
he purchased many trees and shrubs to enrich the beauty of the park.
The village recognized his efforts by naming the main road in the park “Milt Lupean Drive.”
Milt received a Certificate of Recognition
for more than 700 hours of service to RSVP.
He also was awarded a Certificate
of Special Congressional Recognition for outstanding and invaluable service to the community (790.50 hours) for repairing more than 750 toys for Troopers Toys for Tots.
He is survived by cousins Robert (Doris) Lupean,
Gail (Charles) Drummond
and Joan (John) Glenzer.
Besides his parents,
he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean (Wasmund) Lupean; and a brother, Harold.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside ceremony
that will be held Thursday, April 10, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. in Webster Street Cemetery.
The Rev. Cynthia S. Wickwire will officiate.
Memorials may be sent to the Fredonia Fire Department.
