Hello, I wonder if anyone would be able to help me with Swedish records. My great grandfather was Oscar Lundquist, born October 8, 1848 in Stockholm. Father was Peter, mother Melissa or Elizabeth.
His son, my grandfather, told us that he stowed away on a ship bound for New York in 1864 (or 1868) on the 15th of March. He took the name and papers of a passenger on the ship who died enroute (Charles Redman).
However, all the records I have for "Oscar", do not give me much other than his birth date and place. His death certificate from Boston, MA lists his father as Peter (no last name, but assumed to be Lundquist as Oscar's name was before he changed it) and mother as Melissa or Elizabeth. His naturalization papers list his birthplace as Stockholm.
I realize Sweden is very hard and confusing to get and understand records. Is there anyone who could give me a clue or help in how to go about this?? I have done the English side of my family with flying colors, but am stumped on this Swedish side.
