Greetings from Canada,

I'm seeking colonial-era Ludbrooks (any spelling) or Ludbrooks who had Ludbrook or collateral kin remove to the American colonies.

My hope is to find the Ludbrook connection for Ludbrook Lee, born c. 1760, possibly in Edgefield District, South Carolina, died between c. 1799 and 1840, also possibly in Edgefield District, South Carolina.

Ludbrook Lee married Charlotte Pace, daughter of Richard Pace and Sarah Day. They are known to have lived in Edgefield District, where Ludbrook Lee appears as the witness to various deeds.

Charlotte Pace died and is buried in Lowndes Co., Alabama, where she was living with her son Martin Lee in 1840.

Almost nothing is know about Ludbrook Lee. Many who are researching this family assume that Ludbrook is a variant of Ludwell or that he was named for a Ludwell. It could be, but that's not the way surname shifts usually work and not the way children were named in the 18th century.

Any leads to colonial-era Ludbrooks (any spelling) would be very much appreciated.

Best regards,
PK Murphy in Toronto, Ontario, Canada
