Luce Surname

LuseGenealogy  (View posts) Posted: 17 Sep 1999 7:08AM GMT
Apparently all Luces in the United States and Canada are descended from Henry Luce who was born in about 1640 and lived in Scituate, Massachusetts by 1666.
The best source for Luce (or Luse or Loose) genealogy is the huge, 4-volume work by Martha F. McCourt THE AMERICAN DESCENDANTS OF HENRY Luce OF MARTHA'S
VINEYARD published in 1995 by the New England Historic Genealogical Society. There is a copy of this work at the LDS Family History Library in Salt Lake City,
Utah. It can not be microfilmed because of copyright restrictions. However, a 1985 edition is available on microfilm on loan to any branch of the Family History
Library. Martha McCourt has attempted to trace all the descendants of Henry Luce. There is an excellent every-name index. There is a copy of her 1995 edition
in each of the 50 states, usually in the main historical or genealogical library for each state. I hope that helps all you Luces.

Since your last name is Luce, we are probably
related. If you will send three or four generations
of ancestors' names, I will have a much easier
time telling any connection.

Since my Luces lived in Ohio and points west,
we probably are not closely related. When I
am in Salt Lake City next time, I will look up
your Mary and see what I can find.

My grandfather was Willard Luce. He was married to Sophia Lee. My father was born in Brainard,MN 8/27/06. His name was Lloyd Donald Luce. Do you have anything in your ancestry that might lead to more information on Willard. He lived in LaCrescent, MN in later life. He died and is buried there.

This is amazing. I don't know of any close realtionship
between us, but my father's name was Willard Luce. His
father's name was Willard Luce and his mother was Rachel.
My Luces came from Ohio to Indiana to South Dakota to
Utah. I will let you know if I find anything that connects
our two families.
