Here is another prime example of how people link their names to Richard Lewallen of VA & TN. One person has his ancestor’s name as Richard Burton Lewellen, Sr born 1763 VA died May 8, 1833 Anderson Co, TN wife as Gracey Stokley born 1773 Isle of Wight County, VA died 1817 Anderson Co, TN. He linked: Samuel Smith Lewellen born 1778 VA died Mar. 1, 1841 Delaware County, Indiana. His information as stated:
Samuel Smith Lewellen, Born: 1778 in Monongalia, Virginia. Died: 01 Mar 1841 at Liberty, Delaware, Indiana. (Note: This is the date of death shown on the headstone. Per the headstone he was aged 63, therefore his birth year would be 1778).

This is how bad genealogy has gotten! He states his Samuel Smith Lewellen was born 1778; Gracey Stokley was born 1773 per his own admission! Do the math, she cannot be his mother! Richard Lewallen was born 1763; this Samuel Smith Lewellen was born 1778. Richard was only 15 years old. Some of this crap is linked all over the internet.

My reasoning for using the spelling of Lewallen with an A is because I feel many of the Lewallen's Lewellen's Luallen names have been lost. In many instances the Lew & Lu was dropped in census records & the name became ALLEN.
