this is Prue Kockler. My great grandmother was sally Mathews Loyd Pelham. Her mother and father wereJames w. Mathews and Ellen Walker Mathews. James nickname was Puncheon Jim meaning moonshiner. James born 1827 in Mathews Cove in Jackson County Al. According to my grandmother Ellen was Indian and very strong Christian. Father of James was Walker Mathews born 1789 died 1860 buried in Mathews Cove cemetery. He married Luvina Isbell born 1804 died1878 buried in Mathews Cove cemetery. Sarah L Mathews was born in Mathews Cove. She married Henrey Loyd . She had George Washington Loyd in 1876. Henry Loyd left soon after this birth. Sally then had Florena 1879- Luther Isaac Born 1880-Jim born 1889. These children went by the name Loyd. My grandfather was Luther Issac (Ike) Loyd. My mother was 5 years old when the family moved from Jackson county Al. To Oklahoma . My grandmother was Lannie Talley Loyd. She said that a man from Scotsboro came with the last name of Smith and offered Ike Loyd one of his best farms if he would stay. This man was the president of a bank in Scotsboro. Sally later married John Luther Pelham. I find it strange that Ike,s name was the same as the middle name of Pelham. Who knows,! My grandmother's name was Lannie Belle Talley Loyd. George W. Loyd married Emily Talley ( Lannie's sister) . Florena Loyd married William Buckner Talley(Lannie's brother). Jim Loyd married Nannie Jane Talley (Lannie's sister). When George Washington Loyd's first wife (Emily Talley Loyd) he married Martha Talley his first wife sister and sister of Lannie Belle Talley Loyd. Of my living family now there is not much information about Sally Mathews Loyd Pelham after her marriage to Mr. Pelham.
