Lowe Cousins....
Today we have 30 Lowe, Loe, Lough men participating in our Lowe men's DNA testing project at Family Tree DNA in Houston with 29 sets of DNA results back from the University of Arizona. All of these results are posted online for each man in our project to preview on his own personal three webpages on the FTDNA site. Each participant may logon with his ID and password and review these results that are now compared with 6000+ men from around the world. The last 30th set of results is still at the lab in Arizona being analyzed but will be available soon.
The 29 sets of results have been copied over to YSEARCH so all our Lowe men, and their cousins and families, can view and use the COMPARE function to match all our LOWE results. Note none of participants names are listed found in these records unless the participant has added his name to his YSEARCH record. This site is open and freely accessible by anyone who wants to preview any of the over 900 SURNAME families at this YSEARCH site at...
http://www.ysearch.org/To find our Lowes at YSEARCH, please click on the "SEARCH BY LAST NAME" function and on the next page type LOWE in the "Search for" box. And to compare any all of the 29 LOWE men, put a check(s) in the small square in the right hand compare column and the hit the red word "COMPARE" atop the compare column. A new page will appear and then click on the "SHOW GENETIC DISTANCE" button. Anyone with a genetic distance of more than two are not closely related. Note that all of our men are from Haplogroups R1b or I which are very common to western Europe especially the European Atlantic Coastal area including the British Isles. So we have two homogeneous groups of LOWES in our project
We have ten 25/25 and one 24/25 matches with my LOWE family from West Virginia; and, surprisingly have found two men from Joseph Lowe from Logan County, West Virginia that match with my WV LOWES and have been identified as part of our WV lineage. Also we have two 25/25 matches with Peter Lowe from New Jersey, and an 11/12 match with Fielding Loe of Campbell County, TN and a William Lowe from Rockbridge County, Virginia. And two descendants of Major John Lowe of Prince Georges County, Maryland have a close match. So from our entire LOWE men's DNA testing project, we have 17 men out of 29 with partial or complete matches.
This is a +50% success rate and is a great indicator about the usefulness of DNA testing in validating your enealogical research and finding unknown LOWE kin.
We have currently have two major needs:
(1.) To recruit more LOWE men from the US, Canada,Australia, and Europe to build our DNA standards for Lowes. Note our German Lough has no close matches so we do need more Loughs to help this gentleman. You can also help with our enrollment by asking LOWE cousins that you visit with via email to join our project and sign up 25 marker test.
(2.) We have a near match of 11/12 with two of Fielding Loes descendants and a descendant of William Lowe of Rockbridge County, Virginia and a 25 marker upgrade for one of the two Fielding LOE's descendant might help narrow their search to eastern Virginia. And, those of you who initially chose a 12
marker test might want to upgrade to the 25 marker to give you more precision in testing and to narrow down your search with more markers when a match is found.
FTDNA is about to assign test kit # 23,000 to the next man that sign up for a DNA test. The popularity of DNA testing has grown to the point that we have over 900 SURNAME project like the LOWES going at the moment.
