Hello,
My name is Fred Lovelady. I live in Elk City, Ok. I come from the lovelady line going back to Asa. I'm not sure if you and I are of the same line, but I'm interested to find out. My gggrandfather was William Bedford Lovelady, who bore Henry W Lovelady who bore Charles D Lovelady, my dad. I too would be interested to collaborate on known diseases and illnesses of the family. I have several death certificate, just can't remember all the names off the top of my head

In the above post from me where I am looking for the court records naming Mary "Polly" Lovelady as the wife of Joseph F. Gifford. I just noticed on the 1850 census it states that Joseph F. Gifford married his 2nd wife with in the year. That would be 1849-1850. If this is true then my Great Grandmother Eliza Angeline Gifford is the daughter of Mary Lovelady and possibly one or two more children that we assumed were the children of the 2nd wife Rhody (Rhoda). It would appear that the court records need to be gone through more thoroughly and perhaps look for more records.

Mary Polly Lovelady Gifford

In the two court cases over the John Lovelady estate it names Mary Polly Lovelady wife of Joseph Gifford as a daughter, living in MO.. Online I see two different dates for the 2nd case where Jeremiah Gammon was guardian over her children -31 Jan 1845 & 31 Jan 1846. Can anyone tell me which date is correct? In July 1843 it names 9 heirs including Polly Gifford. This leads me to believe Polly is still living 1843. This is very important to me because Joseph F. Gifford had my Great Grandmother born Feb 1845. I would like to know if she was the daughter of Polly Lovelady Gifford or the wife he had by 1850. If anyone has copies of these court records I would appreciate copies or can you tell me where I can obtain copies? I am also related to John Lovelady through the Shrum line. There are so many versions in family trees online one doesn't know what to believe. I would appreciate help from my Gifford/Lovelady "Cousins". Much Thanks.

The y37-dna test would be unlikely to place your James Lovelady as a son of Amos Lovelady. Wilma Baldwin Moore did great research and I though made a good case for the placement of James Lovelady in her article. My descent is from Thomas Lovelady (Jane Wear) so I have no knowledge of the James Lovelady Bible. Good Luck.

We are from the James - THB Lovelady line. Wilma Baldwin is a cousin & I have the material you refer to.

I would love to find some reference to our James being a son of Amos. James had a bible, but I do not know who in this very large family might have it, or if it even still exists.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

charlieray77
Today 3:45 PM GMT
I am not sure if the y-dna test would prove the family connections you seek. The data would be another point of information (take for the long term goal if interested) but the test would likely confirm membership in the US Lovelady family only (the US haplogroup). Your answer is better found in "Uniting the Lovelady Family"--Wilma Baldwin Moore in vol 22 #4 1996 of In Shadow of the Smokies published by the Smoky Mountain Historical Society (Sevierville, TN).
The tester is from the Amos--Pleasant J.--James Pleasant--Frank Duke Lovelady line which should be quite close to your Amos--James--THB Lovelady line.

Lovelady y-DNA
We now have three y-DNA37 results (familytreedna testing lab) from the American branch of the Lovelady family. These three tests confirm a haplotype for the American family and represent the three probable sons (John, Marshall, Thomas jr.) of our assumed immigrant Thomas Lovelady. The tests also confirm a haplogroup I2a (commonly associated with the British Isles). I tried to find a UK tester who could trace their Lovelady family back to the latter half of the 1700s. I found a family but for some reason they wouldn't take the test (I offered to pay). Hopefully this will happen in the future. For the present we assume the family came from the parishes just north of Liverpool in old Lanchashire county (see old records below).

http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/lovelady/results

#92797 Thomas Lovelady (of John?) bc 1767 (NC?) m Jane Wear

#284492 Amos Lovelady (of Marshall) bc 1781 TN m Clara Boaz

#65478 John Lovelady (of Simeon?) bc 1770 (SC?) m Mary (Jones?)

It is also possible that people could place themselves within the American family based on their unique markers (many more tests needed and perhaps more markers , 67 or 111).

TL/JW is different from the other two at 393 & 385b.

Marshall is different from the other two at 464b &464c.

See also this approach once more people take the test.

http://kippeeb.blogspot.com/2011/07/interesting-look-at-i2a-...

Might you know others who might take the test (37 is really the minimum number of markers to be useful)? The prices are down now for the test $149 (they do run sales throughout the year) if ordered through the worldfamilies.net site above).

Some other useful Lovelady y-DNA tests might be:

John (2) the Scout (Margaret) of probably Thomas jr

John (3) of Haberham county, GA

James (3) of Smith county, TN (Dorcus)

William Morgan Lovelady (2) (Rachel Lindsey)

John (2) of Hamilton county, TN (Clarissa Hughes)

1500

Burial: 16 Oct 1569 St Michael, Aughton, Lancashire, England
John Loveladye -
Register: Burials 1541 - 1765, Page 115, Entry 16

1600

Burial: 27 Oct 1612 St Michael, Aughton, Lancashire, England
Jane Loveladie - Wife of Elis Loveladie
Register: Burials 1541 - 1765, Page 135, Entry 13

Land confiscated by Commonealth. 1652 Gent.
My Great Grandma was Eliza Elizabeth Lovelady, Warren's wife
I remember you G Grandfather well. He had a scar on his face where he was trying to light a firecracker. My Grandma was Myrtle Lovelady Nelson and I remember Lawrence and his wife Ada. I know that our great grand parents lost 3 daughters,2 on Thanksgiving and 1 on Christmas from "pneumonia". I feel that the only living children in my lifetime were S.J., Lawrence and Myrtle, Eliza died during my live time of what is now known as Alzhimers. She live to around 90 I think. She lived in a little bitty house SJ built for her and spent a lot of time with My family and Myrtle. I have her wedding dress as a keepsake and several of the quilts she made. I can't remember SJ's wife name but I remember visiting on Sat. and going with one of the sons to a little church in Lahoma and putting mud in it so it couldn't open on Sunday. I would like to know if any of you have had any family member with Cystic Fibrosis. A hereditary disease that in the beginning acts a lot like pneumonia. My son had it and died when he was six.Would love to communicate with any of the family.
Hi Carol, I have traced the Lovelady's back to 1330 thanks to Ancestry.com John "Lovelace" b 1330 in Behersden, Kent, England died same place.William Lovelace b 2 Feb 1583 in Woolwich, Kent, England d. 12 Aug 1627 Seige Grolle, Netherlands, Thomas Lovelady b 1614 Woolwich, Kent, England d 1689 Staten Island, Richmond, New York then on to Tenn., Ala., ect. Does this help anyone? I have the lineage down to Henry and Sarah Lovelady. I was told they were Cherokee but haven't been able to prove this yet. If you would like more let know and I will be glad to help if I can. Roxanna Hendrix

I realize this post is over 7 years old, but I am connected to this family. You mentioned Lena's brothers, and one was named Troy. This was my great-grandfather and his name was William Troy Lovelady. Jeff was Lewis Jefferson. I don't have a brother named John T., but I have one named J.C., which could have stood for John. All of the siblings:

William Ivy
Lena Bell
William Troy
William Thomas, Jr. (their father was William Thomas, Sr.)
Lewis Jefferson
George Houston
JC Lovelady

I would like to compare notes with you if at all possible. I have pictures of William Ivy, Lena Bell, William Troy and William Thomas (did they like the name William??? Ha). I also have death certs and other things such as that. I'd love to share!

Jamie

Hi - I'm sorry for any confustion on the ggg granfather lineage. It get's a little complcated and I must have miscounted inititally in my message - he would be my 7th great.

Yes I show Thomas b about 1709 and d. abt 1772. Atleast seven children - Thomas (jr?) b. 1725 was my 6th great grandfather.

Descended from there through his son John b. 1748 and then his son Solomon Lovelady b. 1800. A daughter of Soloman narried John Wesley Roe. Their daughter Melinda Angeline Roe married into my Jackson line.

Sorry for any confusion and please let me know if I can help or if you would like additional explaination or information. I hope this helps..

Thank you,
Janet

Both Irish and Scot....seems a couple (he from Ireland) she from (scotland0 wanted to get married, but wealthy parents would not allow such a mix, so they ran away, borded a ship in London and sailed for america. to keep from being found, they changed their name from (?) to lovelady when they arrived in new york harbor in the late 1600's or early 1700's....understand one of their children owned a North Carolina Railroad back in the late 1700's.....apparently his name sounded like a dirty word, so nobody would ever tell what it was, my cousin went to his grave with it....sorry

My great-grandfather was SJ Lovelady born in Carrier, OK to Warren Ellis Lovelady and Eliza Elizabeth DeWhitt. Lawrence and SJ's other brother's name was William Hobert Lovelady. There were several other siblings that died at a very young age and are buried in a cemetary in Cleo Springs, OK.
