I'm searching for Andrew Loobey, b. 1850 in Ireland; m. in 1866 Rock Island County, Illinois, to Mary Badham as her second husband. They were divorced. I have not been able to locate another marriage for him or his death record. He had two sons: Albert Newton "Newt" Loobey, b. 28 Aug 1867 in Rock Island County, IL, and (2)Frank Loobey, b. 1869. Do any of these names sound familiar. Can you help me? Thanks.

I think my great grandfather is a brother to your John (1847), Patrick (1861) and Margaret (1867) Looby. His name was Jeremiah Looby, born 10 Sept 1855 in Troy, NY. His parents were William Looby and Ann Donnelly.

Do you know what cemetery or cemeteries the Loobys from Troy are buried in?

Pat(rick) aged 15. My grandfather was 9 at the time of the 1901 census. I asked my father about Patrick Looby. He knows that he left, probably for America, and never contacted anyone at the home place again, to his knowledge. Two of his sisters became nuns. He knew that he had a brother John (never married) and Michael, who married a woman from Ahascragh, née Donnellan. They had children, one of whom became Mrs Shaughnessy of Cloonmore, Tuam and one who was Mrs Kelly of Bishop St, Tuam. Her son, Liam Kelly ( a stonecutter) is still there. If you need further information, you can contact my father through me.

Hi,

Thanks for the information. My Luby/Looby family is from Cam, Curry, Co. Roscommon. Unfortunately, due to the lack of documentary evidence, I could only trace my family back to the early 1800s. If the records existed, perhaps we could find a link between your family and mine.

Thanks Again!!

His parents were Stephen/Stephanus Looby and Margarita Roche or Roache. Martin's siblings were Gulielmus "William", Maria, Margarita, and Stephanus. Martin's children spelled their name Luby. Are all Loobys from Roscommon related?

My GGgrandmother was Bridget Loobey (born Dec. 1843) from Tipperary, Ireland, and lived in Detroit MI and also Laingsburg MI. She married my GGgrandfather George Edward "Neddie" Ferrigan.
Her brother Patrick Loobey (born March 1850)lived in Tipperary, Ireland, also lived in Michigan, in Bay City MI, Laingsburg MI, and then lived the rest of his life in Beloit, Mitchell Co., Kansas. Married Margaret Ryan in Kansas.
I believe they both immigrated in the early 1860s. Any info you have would be wonderful.

Janet Darling

I am in Tuam on Friday, I was there 2 weeks ago. I also have relatives from Tuam called Luby who left for England in 1840's. I am to visit the cathederal to check birth records. My Lubys obviously left family behind so could be part of yours. There is one luby left in Tuam (not called Luby now though due to marriage)and I went to see her. I took phots of graves in the area of Curraghaun. I will get back to you with any ingo

Tina

Andrew Lube born abt 1821 Ireland and descendants

My great grandmothers family was Elizabeth Shannon born in Wigan 1878 died 30 July 1928 Stockport Cheshire
I have found the following having overcome transcription errors / mispellings of first names and surnames - her mother was Margaret Lube and father was Michael Shannon and i would like to find out more about the Lube's and Shannons but reckoned I would have more luck with the less common surname of Lube

The oldest info is 1851 census when living at No.6 Court Porter Street, Liverpool
Andrew Lube abt 1821 Ireland head Occupation = Journeyman Painter
Diana Lube abt 1811 Ireland wife(nee Walsh? see James below)
Margaret Lube abt 1845 Liverpool daughter
James Walsh abt 1830 Ireland stepson
Jane Mooney abt 1815 Ireland lodger

Diana dies sometime between 1851 and 1861 as on the 1861 census Andrew has remarried but have not found a potential death index for her yet

1861 Census now living at No.14 Court Porter Street, Liverpool
Andrew Lube abt 1821 Ireland head Occupation = Painter
May Lube abt 1814 Ireland wife
Margaret Lube abt 1844 Liverpool daughter

Andrew dies not long after census taken ? ( need to check 1861 Death index vol8b pg 21 Liverpool 1837-1934)

1871 Census cannot find his 2nd wife - May

Andrew's daughter Margaret born abt 1844 married Michael Shannon in 1863 ( 1863 Marriage Index vol8b pg 403 Liverpool 1837-1934 )

1871 Census living at 15 ? St, near Market St, Manchester
Michael Shannon abt 1831 Ireland head occupation Tailor
Margaret Lube abt 1845 Liverpool wife
Hannah ( Johannah) Shannon abt 1866 Liverpool daughter
Margaret Shannon abt 1867 Liverpool daughter
Andrew Shannon abt 1869 Manchester son

Margaret Lube ( her death is possibly 1879 in West Derby, Liverpool but I need to check this death index)

1881 Census now living at 1 Scotland Court, nr Mill St, Manchester.
Michael Shannon abt 1831 Ireland head widower Occupation = Tailor
Hannah ( Johannah) Shannon abt 1866 Liverpool daughter
Margaret Shannon abt 1867 Liverpool daughter
Andrew Shannon abt 1869 Manchester son
Elizabeth Shannon abt 1874 Manchester daughter

Between 1881 and 1891 Michael remarries - Alice Kendal - date/place unknown? and they have 2 children 1885 Alice Shannon and 1886 Henry Shannon

I cannot find any of the family members in 1891 census or afterwards except that I pick up Elizabeth Shannon on her marriage certificate in 1899 when she married my great grandfather Joseph Hitch and have the 1901 census data for them.

Re Michael Shannon - according to family memories he had a tailors shop in Manchester somewhere off Picadilly that you went down steps to enter and he developed waterproof riding wear which was unusual at the time. He possibly had been an army tailor at some point but details not known. I would like to find out what happened to Michael and his children - Elizabeth's siblings as they sink out of sight after 1881

I really want to find out more about the Lube family line as this is a fairly unusual name but would appreciate any help in filling out the gaps re the census data given above and also earlier facts.

So here is hoping that someone out there can help me with my research ( Elizbeths husband - Jospeh Hitch also comes form a mysterious family as I cannot trace them further back for definite before a marriage certificate dated 1867 ) So it would be nice to make a breakthrough somewhere with my maternal ancestral line.

Thank you for reading this

Dear Padraig,

Thank you so much for your reply. My great-grandfather, Michael Looby was from Cam, Curry, County Roscommon. He was the son of Michael Looby/Luby and Winifred Corley. His siblings were: Bridget, Mary, Ellen, John, Margaret, Catherine, Winifred, and Thomas. All were baptised in Curry.

Winifred Corley married Michael Looby. She was the daughter of Matthew Corley and Mary Mee. Her baptism record was located in Ballybay Parish records, but no townland listed.

Michael Looby (my gg-grandfather) was the son of Thomas Looby and Ellen Dolan of Curry.

I hope that this helps you with your research.

Sincerely,
Bill

Re: Lawrence Looby

Hi Karen; I emailed this to you, but just incase your email has changed, I posted it here, also for others on the same search.

I don't have alot of information for you about Lawrence Looby. But I will share what I know.

My Great Grandfather was Charles August Ballman, he was orphaned in 1868 in Brooklyn New York. Lawrence Looby adopted him when he was about 5 or 6 years old. Lawrence owned a feed lot and raised cattle. Charles August Ballman had two blood sibblings, John and Mary. Mary married a gentleman with the last name of Ross, don't have a first name. They had several chidren, but I don't know all of them, and infact the only one I have is Frank. John Ballman was a painter and we think a police officer in New York and died in 1912.

Lawrences Looby's blood son, Charles L, married Lidia Coady.

How all this relates to me/you.

Charles August Ballman married Mary Ann Walsh. Mary Ann Walsh had several sibblings that came from Tinnascolly, The Rower, Kilkenny, Ireland. Mary Ann's sister, Ann Walsh married Tom Coady, they had several children... Eddy, Frank, Hurst, John, Katie, Lidia, Peter, and Tommy.

Another sibbling was Katherine Walsh, who married Mike Tiereny. They had children named John, Katherine, Steven and Tom. Mike Tiereny was killed in an auto accident with his daughter Katherine, when they were coming home from church.

And another sibbling Patrick Walsh born 1882 married Bridget __(I think it is Larky, not sure)____? don't know the last name.
Their children are...Cecilia, Katherine, Mary, Stephen and Leo. I only have a year of birth for Leo of 1909.

Leo Walsh owned a business in Elkhart, Illinois "Elkhart Oil Company" Leo was in business with Fenton Craner. The phone number from way back then was 3181 (that is short I know, but that really was the number)

I am presently trying to make some headway on this part of the tree, so if you find more information, I would appreciat it, if you would share. I have also connected with a professional genealogist that thinks he may be able to connect our COADY relatives to his, in which case he has traced his back to William the Conquor....so I will keep you informed on that.

Hope this helps with your search.

Kindest Regards,
Kaayla Canfield
I'm looking for info on Peter Looby. He was born abt 1812 in Tipperary Irland. He died on Feb 3, 1888 in Ft. Dodge, IA. Married Julia Ellen Londrigan about 1855 in Wales. The only child that I know about at this time is Lawrence Joseph Luby, B. Feb 2 1856 in Wales. Any help would be great. Thanks, Kelly
