Barbara Ellen Walker Long
(September 21, 1936 - June 8, 2007)
Mrs. Barbara Ellen Walker Long, age 70, of Marion, passed away on June 8, 2007 at Autumn Care of Marion. A native of McDowell County, she was born on September 21, 1936 to the late Horace Walker and Nellie Mae Shepard Walker Gillespie. Barbara was a member of Yancey Street Baptist Church and was retired from the McDowell County School System. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family and friends deeply and will be remembered for her excellent cooking. A sister, Betty Lou Smith preceded her in death.
Surviving are her husband of 53 years, James E. Long, Sr.; four children, Denise Brank and her husband Rick of Drexel and Susan Long Bishop, Vicki L. DePoyster and her husband Terry and Jimmy Long, Jr. and his wife Christy, all of Marion; two brothers, Carl Walker and his wife Jetta and Ralph Withrow and his wife Nola, all of Marion; seven grandchildren, Craig, Janee, Nick, Brad, Blake, Garrison and Kelsey; four great grandchildren, Lilly, Jadyn, Abigail, Chelsey and Cody; a special friend, Evelyn Burnette; and many other beloved friends.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 11, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. in Westmoreland Chapel with Revs. Dean Owenby, Douglas Prevette and Phil Murdock officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4:00 � 6:00 p.m. at Westmoreland Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
