The following is the gealogical information found in the pension application for George Long # S4564. Statement from the Tresury Dept, A. Parris Comptroller that George was paid from 4th of Sept. 1837- 4 th of March 1838.(another statement by the same person) He was an pensioner on the roll of Jonesborough Tenn. at the rate of $20 per annum and was paid 4 Mar. 1838- 4th of Sept. 1838.
George Long personally appeared in open court in Hawkins Co,Tenn. on the 3 of April 1833, aged about 75 years. He resided in Shannandoah Co, in Va. when he volunteered in the service of the United States under Capt. Michel Raden about the first of Sept. 1778 or 79 as well as he recollects. Was marched to Woodstock the County town for Shannandoah Co where they united with other companys from other parts of the county. He was marched from Woodstock to Winchester to Fort Pitt to guard and defend that point from Indian attackers.This was undertaken because of the Shawnee Indians.The soliders at Fort Pitt were then marched to help Fort Henry. As they marched indians were shooting at them from the banks.
George stated he was born in Shannadoah Co, va. in 1757 or 58 Since the war he has lived in Va. and then moved to Tenn.
