Tho distantly, we're related. Gabriel Long, son of John and Barbara Read Long is younger brother of my 4 grt grdf. John Read Long b. 1754 St. Mary's co. Md. (St. Andrews Church Register). Barbara's father, John Read Jr. served in the Maryland State Legislature (see Papenfuse) and was a vestryman of St. A's. Ch. as was John Long. Mr.Read d. 1771 leaving a will, and John & Barbara R. Long moved to Culpeper Co. Va. where MANY other Longs, with the same names, also lived- and served in the Revol. (I can't find a relationship, but am certain there is one.) I can't find Jn.Read Long, but his brothers Major Gabriel (yours) and Capt. Reuben (d. 1832 Sumter Co. SC,- will) did. According to Turkey Crk. Church minutes Abbev.SC .John and Barbara Long moved there after the War 1785-86 with a lot of Pr. Wm. and Fauquier Co VA folks. There their children married. John Read Long m. "Sallie" last name unknown. In Ethel Updike's book she says Gabriel (yours) m. Mary Latimer b. Charles Co. MD. in Abbeville. With others of the family, he too went to AL.
