BOARDMAN, Ohio – This is in loving memory of Arthur R. Lonardo, 92, who was affectionately known to many as “Art” and “Grandpa.”
Art was born Sept. 30, 1917, a man of the earth. He was a lifelong farmer, who with his brothers, Mike and Howard, owned and operated Lonardo & Sons Greenhouse, a business started by his Father, Vito, and now continued by his son, Frank.
Arthur served honorably in the U.S. Army during WWII and was awarded seven bronze stars for his service in the North Africa and European Theater.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vito and Mary; an infant son, Dominic; a grandson, John Arthur; his two brothers, Mike and Howard; and a son-in-law, Frank Quinlan.
Art leaves behind an abundance of Love and Salvation in his wife of 62 years, Antoinette (Caputo); a multitude of children, Vito (Carolyn) Lonardo, Mary Quinlan, Arthur (Jane) Lonardo, Annette Lonardo, Howard Lonardo, Frank (Donna) Lonardo, Mark Lonardo, and Richard (Debbie) Lonardo; 19 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a loving sister, Josephine Anzelmo.
Prayers will be held at 9 a.m. Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, at the Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Charles Borromeo Church.
Calling hours for Art will be held today, Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Avenue in Boardman, Ohio.
