I would also love any information on Mahala Logsdon and Isaac Sermon. I am a descendant of the Sermon name, my grandfather being Marvin Sermon of Louisville, Kentucky, born in 1934. I am doing research into the Sermon name, trying to find my Blackfoot Indian (Siksika) roots. Any help would be awesome, as my grandfather Marvin passed away 2 years ago and cannot afford any help.

In the pic, that is my grandfather on the far left.

I was adopted as an infant and have only recently started researching my maternal line. Hazel McKnight was my mother and her mother was Jessie M. Logsdon, Leon Marlin Logsdon's daughter. How did Cincinnati become the center of so much related to the Logsdons? Are you close to Albia? I was born and raised in Chariton. Thank you for the contact cousin. Larry

I agree with you and see the same thing all the time. People just copy others without questioning. I also have been trying to find who this Patience Logsdon is. The daughter of Elisha Logsdon, Sr married Blind John J. Durbin. Her mother was not Susanna Lackey but was by Elisha's first wife who many say was Rebecca Howard but no record has been found of Elisha's first wife's name.
If you are interested in joining a Logsdon Group who works together to put the lines in proper order, please contact me at Sonorams@sbcglobal.net with your name and email for an invitation to join. It is a private group, free, and helpful members. I, along with some of the best older Logsdon researchers started the first Logsdon group in 1981 before computer and have had one since. Would be delighted to have another family member join us. Please mention this post when responding by email so I will know who you are. Thanks, a Logsdon Cousin.

Parents of Patience Logsdon, wife of Francis X Wagers

Greetings. In Pearl M. Cox's Durbin, Wagers, Witt and associated families compilation done in 1987 she clearly states that Patience Logsdon, father was a John Logsdon from Maryland.
Unfortunately that's about all she says...
On Ancestry everyone has Patience father as being Elisha Logsdon but no one has a valid source. It looks like everyone used the same family tree and called it good. I see this all the time with some of my old information from eons that got posted to Ancestry. Anyway, does anyone have any real proof that Patience Logsdon (1771-1830) is the daughter of Elisha Logsdon and Susannah Lasky?
Thanks a bunch

Re: James R. Logsdon Adoption

Thank you for your suggestion, John; I will consider DNA testing at some point. I have learned about a 300-pg, indexed publication on Logsdon Family History by Wm R. Logsdon, available through the Versailles Area Genealogical & Historical Society, Brown County Illinois for $35.

I also know that Kansas City was an adoption hub for many years. Due to the ease of adoptions in Jackson County, MO, young women arrived by train to live in maternity homes, give birth & return home.

The court advocate I am working with has ordered my father's original birth certificate from the state. She has indicated this request can take some time. The frustrating aspect of this is an amendment to the current law, affecting these older cases did not pass just 2 yrs ago!

Again, thank you for your reply!
Nancy

James R. Logsdon Adoption

My father, James R. Logsdon was born at Fairmount Maternity Hospital on 28 Nov 1919. He was adopted through the Jackson Family Court on 19 Nov 1920 by Della Demaris Mounkes (Steffen) & Carl Steffen. Upon his adoption, Dad's name was changed to James Cecil Steffen. Due to Missouri's closed adoption laws, to date the court will not release the name of Dad's birth-mother to me. Even with changes to Missouri adoption law in recent years, allowances were not made for older cases where all parties are now deceased. I have engaged an intermediary to the court to prove Dad's birth-mother, who would be well-over 100 yrs. old, is indeed deceased. The court will provide the name of Dad's natural mother to the researcher, whom I have paid a minimal fee. I do not know & I may not ever know whether Logsdon was the last name of my father's natural mother or his father! Suggestions are welcome!

Thanks John, for posting this. I am one of your Logsdon's in the DNA project. My brother tested also. We both show up as 100 percent European even though we've been told all of our lives that both of our Grandmother's (paternal & maternal) were 1/2 Native American.

Not only are you our DNA Administrator but you are a member of our Logsdon Family research group, "Logsdon Connections". A group of Logsdon "cousins" who help each other with research on their families. We would like to see more Logsdon cousins join our group so we can get more of the families connected and correct some of the myths and incorrect information that has been passed around for so long. Anyone can join and we are anxious to have new cousins. Just contact me and I will send an invitation to be able to log in. memeluke@comcast.net.
I, personally am descended from Thomas Logsdon 1 and wife Mary Unknown. My family went from MD>VA>KY>MO>TX>OK and left descendants all along the way.

Keep up the good work John.

Good morning to all of my Logsdon Cousins!
I am looking for a copy of the Will of Elisha Logsdon Will, 1814/1815 Madison Co, KY. Does anyone have a copy that they would be willing to share with me. A few things have been brought to my attention that hasn't been included in the many transcriptions that I have seen.
I you do please email me at Memeluke@scbglobal.net.

I can't find my copy that I had several years ago.

Thank you.

That book is shameful. It has not one bit of truth and misleads anyone who wants their family history correct.
There also isn't any proof where either William or Honor came from or who their parents are. All of the English parents are assumptions...none proven. There isn't even any proof of Honor's name being O'Flynn. Family lore! Why not deal with facts and look for proof like the real genealogists do?

Thought I would pass this along in the event anyone is interested in doing the DNA testing for Logsdon. It's a GREAT deal and we need more Logsdon's to test. John Smeltzer is one of the people in charge of the Logsdon DNA List and he's wonderful! Please, if you can, take this test.

I received a notice from FTDNA and they have a special price now for $99.00 for Family Finder autosomal test.
Beginning on Thursday, June 27, 2013 and running until Friday, July 26, 2013.

You can go to the following site to sign up for the test.
http://www.familytreedna.com/

If you are interested and have queations I can put you in contact with John Smeltzer. You can email me at meme1945@myfamily.com.

It would be nice to see more Logsdon descendants take the test.

I am from the line of Thomas Logsdon I b ca 1712-13 and wife Mary Unknown who was son of William Logsdon I and Honora (O'Flynn?) > Thomas Logsdon II b ca 1735 and wife Mary Unknown > John Logsdon b ca 1760 and wife Ursula Kelley > Thomas S.
Ditto the comments about the Bailey book. It is a work of fiction and published as such. It is not to be taken as a true life story. He wanted to base a story about young women who were sold into marriages, having been inspired by the LEGEND of Honora being a kidnapped young Irish lass. He never should have used the names of real people to base his story upon. Too many inexperienced researchers assume the whole book is based on truth. No Logsdon researcher has ever provided proof of the kidnap story of Honora or of any parents for her and WIlliam.

Whether or not it is the same is unknown. I do not know much about this side of my family just yet. I am still looking and digging. I know most of my family originates from Kentucky and moved to Indiana where the name spell changed and from my understanding it didnt sit well with the rest of the family. Only know some of the details not a lot. Sorry that is all I can offer.

Robert Joshua Logston/Logsdon Sr.
Surnames: Logsdon, Logston's

Hi, Im looking for information on my great great grandfather side, Robert J Logston Sr. Last name originally spelled Logsdon but changed over to Logston. He was born (believed birth) -- March 4, 1898 in Harlan Co, Kentucky. He died on May 20, 1963 in Marion Cty, Indiana.

He married Laura Iva Russel (birth: February 3, 1902 in Clay, Indiana - Death: February 9, 1988 in Marion Cty, Indiana). They were married on June 1, 1918 in Indiana. We believe his father/mother to be a James Cal/Calvin Logston/Logsdon and a Katie last name unknown. Can anyone help me to verify and continue this search?

I know that the original spelling of the name is - Logsdon, originating from Kentucky. However, when my great grandfather moved to Indiana the name spell changed to Logston and the name change created bad blood through out the family. I am assuming the name change was to pull away from the turmoil that was surrounded by the hanging of Calvin Logsdon of whom I am not sure if is the same as James Calvin Logsdon/Logston above. I have yet to find more proof towards that. Can anyone help me out please?

We do have a family DNA project for LOGSDON / LOGSTON at Family Tree DNA and have at least one kit here at Ancestry directly with others with LOGSDON / LOGSTON ancestry in our matching.

We do see some evidence for a tad bit of Native American ancestry but have not yet sorted out exactly where it originates ... so it may not be through LOGSDON perse and it must be pretty "old" from an autosomal DNA perspective.

However, the more testing completely combined with more family trees the more likely we can eventually sort it out better. Much of the family history flows from MD into VA/NC into KY and then all about from there. My ties are to the LOGSDON's in KY and MO most directly.

Frank, son William, of Virginia/West Virginia

Trying to help out with the search for the Logsdon Family of the area that was Virginia, now West Virginia. Have seen some old posts in other site's forums, but want to inquire if progress has been made recently.

Have traced a branch of the Logsdon family back to William Herbert (Bert) Logsdon, (1878-1943) who was married to Nellie N Earhart (1882-1967). This couple spent much of their married life in Lyon County, KS. William (Bert) is reported as having been born in Virginia (WV) and with the help of Internet searches have tied William (Bert) to Frank A Logsdon (on FindaGrave: Franklin A Logsdon) (1851-1932) who was married to Margaret Jennie McFann (1861-1937).

I see in another site's forum that the search for Frank's parents has been ongoing, but over a decade ago had yet to bear results. I am hoping someone has made more progress since then. If anyone has made progress, please share.

After doing some searches on census documents and West Virginia vital statistics databases, I see there are several Logsdon entries into the death records due to diseases. I also saw Logsdon entries in 1860 census where young Logsdons were attached to other families. I am trying to mute my natural tendency toward speculation, but is it possible this family was affected by disease and death to the point where the surviving children were taken in by other families? If so, would there be any formal court records of the area to verify this?

Still have not found Frank Logsdon in census documents for Virginia (and WV). Any assistance connecting Frank to his parents would be appreciated - even if it is to let me know the above theory is wrong - because of some data finally found on Frank.

Charles is pictured in The Gig Sheet, yearbook of the 43-I flight cadet training class at Pampa Army Air Field in Pampa, Texas. I'm not kin but thought this might help someone researching the family.

Thank you for your kindness. I am sorry for your loss too, you knew him well, time makes no difference, you cared for him and I'm sure he cared for you. I just thought it was so sad Clarence had died. I didn't know him but have looked for his book for a long time.

Oh and that person who was replying, he isn't even related to any of us I think he said. Thanks again.
