My paternal side bears the Loda name. I am searching for information on my grandfather Andrew Martin Loda and his family.

He was born in Chicago on Oct. 26, 1894; his parents were John Loda Sophia (Zophia) Mysliwiec. They came from Austria (town unknown as of yet), but spoke Polish. They had three boys: Frank, George and Andrew. Though I have no record of John's death, Sophia remarried twice (Stachacinski Mniech) and had a son by Stachacinski named Steve, who later changed his name to Steve Loda (for "ease of spelling," says Steve's wife, Cecelia Loda, now almost 100). John's parents names were Anthony Loda Maria Biszczut. Sophia's parents were John Mysliviec Catherine (no maiden name found yet). John Sophia were married in St. Stanislaus Church, corner of Noble Ingram Streets, Chicago, around 1888 (they presented themselves to the priest for questioning in Aug. '88...marriage date unknown yet). The four sons lived in East Chicago, Indiana, for much of their lives, though George died in Arkansas Steve lived in AZ for a number of years. Two were in the army during WWI, Frank my grandfather, Andrew.

Andrew married Anna Bober at St. Stanislaus in East Chicago, Indiana, on Feb. 20, 1928. They had three children: One son, my father, Alex (b. Aleksander on March 24, 1929) and two daughters, Theresa (b. Oct. 7, 1930), and Lorraine (b. Nov. 9, 1932). Andrew died on Nov. 3, 1949 in Crown Point, Indiana.

At 28, I am the youngest of Andrew's 9 grandchildren and hope to find clues to his origins. Anyone with info on Polish Austria and ancestors from that area, please contact me. I know little of it, having just learned we are from there (we thought we were from Poland directly...and I suppose we are, but we had no knowledge of the Austrian part).

I'm not even sure yet where John Sophia entered the US...I have not researched the immigration ports...Ellis is obvious, but does anyone know of any others, or if there were any others at all on the east coast? Thanks very much. (For info on my grandmother Anna Bober, who has direct ties to Rzeczow, Poland, please see Bober msg board...I need info on her siblings.) - Robyn L. Loda
