My grandfather, Ramon Llanes Garmendia
My grandfather lived in Ponce Puerto Rico. Lived with the Seminole Indians for a short period of time. I would like to know if I have family in Florida or anywhere else. He was married to Eulalia Cotto Llanes.

Most of the Llanes I have traced originated from the town of Llanes, Spain, originally a tiny fishing village but still on the maps (look at the very top), in the Asturias region. They emigrated to Cuba during the revolution, then to Miami Tampa. The line I follow decends from Juan Llanes, b.1870, Llanes, Spain, md.Encarnacion Fernandez c1892 in Cuba. Some children b.there, some in FL. Children: Oscar, Bienvenido, Manuela Terese. Oscar never md. Bienvenido "Benny" Llanes, b.1895, Havana, md.Ernestina Gonzalez they had Andrew, Celia, Oscar, Ines Dahlia. Oscar md.Ouida June Wells in 1947 they had 3 children: Katherine (my sister-in-law), Renea Javal. Advise.

Re: My grandfather, Ramon Llanes Garmendia
I am also descended from the de Garmendia family. Many of the family seem to have settled in Puerto Rico, Cuba and some came to the US to Maryland and then to New York. There is a family of de Garmendia descendents in New York, on Long Island. Theses de Garmendias operated a packet (ship) line from Cuba.
I have tried in vain to link my great-grandmother, Gracia Emma de Garmendia, with any of the de Garmendias, without luck. She was apparently disowned by the family for marrying a German Protestant. If you have any information on any de Garmendia from the mid-to-late 1800s, who married in Baltimore, Maryland, I would appreciate it.
Other research I have found links the de Garmendias to Basque country, and I am currently investigating this link.
I hope that I find something helpful to you, or maybe you have something for my search.
Thanks, leslie

Re: My grandfather, Ramon Llanes Garmendia
My name is Patricia Llanes and I live in Miami, Florida. I don't know anything about my fathers side of the family aside from the fact that he came from Ponce, Puerto Rico. My father's name is Jesus Llanes, he has a tattoo of the name Betty Cole on his chest. Do you have any relatives named Jesus?

I am trying to help a friend who is related to the Llanes that settled in Tampa from Cuba. Francisca Anita Nova Llanes (formerly Estrada) married to Celestino Llanes. Do those names sound familiar? I would appreciate any help you can offer.

Francisca Anita Nova Llanes is my Great Great Grandmother, and is at Woodlawn Cemetery Block 179 Lot 6 in the old Section, it was deeded to Paul A Llanes in 1911. Her daughter and many others are also there, about 15 people.

Re: My grandfather, Ramon Llanes Garmendia
my grandfather Ramon Llanes came from Ponce, PR He was my mom's father. He carried the blood of the Caribe indians as told to me by my mother, Elvira Llanes. Grandfather and my mom passed away. Granpa was in Floria visiting and working with an American white man and lived like a Seminole indian. He was of dark complexion and was not well received by the general public. Wherever he went he left women carrying his children so God only knows. All of this happened in the early 1900's.
