Through ellisisland.org i found that my great-grandparents came to the United States directly from France. i have been told that the surname Llanes or with z is from Asturias in Spain, so my great-great grandfather or back further, must have moved from Spain to France. I looked on a map and it is not far from the Asturias region in Spain to Baho, France, their registered place of origin. Interestingly, when i found my great-grandmother's death certificate online from Calif. records, her maiden name was listed as "Asturias". there is no one alive now who knows anything so it is a mystery. i presently live in Mexico - just on a lark i took a job selling real estate to americans in Cabo San Lucas 20 years ago and stayed. still am american citizen. i have found Llanes, Llanez, Yanez, and Yañez surnames here. i hope this helps! Cathleen
