My Ljubicic family

Hi!

It's great to see a message board for the Ljubicic family. I'm sure there are quite a few of us out there, many of whom have no idea that this was the original surname of their families. My grandfather's surname was changed to Lubich and his brother's to Lubeck after arriving in America. So I have two variations within the same family!

My grandfather's name was Vasil Ljubicic. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1909. The ship's manifest listed his birthplace as Vrginmost and the address of his closest living relative as his father, Janko Ljubicic, living at Plesivica 19 Vrginmost. Does anyone know where that was?

According to his naturalization papers he was born in 1892 in Vrginmost and his ethnicity was Serbian. His marriage certificate gives his father's name as John Lubich (I know that translates to Janko Ljubicic) and his mother's as Mary Beleck (Belic?).

He had a brother Eli (I would assume that this has been Americanized). I haven't been able to find out when he came to the U.S.

I'd love to know if anyone has any info on this family. I didn't know that Ljubicic was such a common surname.

Linda

My name is Heather Lubich! I was actually adopted, but the man i call my father is John I. Lubich Jr, and my grandfathers name is John I. Lubich. I find this very interesting, and was unaware that the name was as common as you seem to say it is. Could you please tell me what you know.

Thank you for your time,
Heather
