Hi Wayne

I apologize for "butting in" on this thread, but I just read your post about your gr gr grandfather. Your gr gr grandmother, Emma Pistner, was my gr gr grandfather's great niece. So, your gr gr gr gr grandfather, Christoph Pistner, and my gr gr grandfather, Adam Pistner, were brothers. And "my" Adam PIstner was also a shoemaker (like your gr gr grandfather) and worked in Covington from the early 1860's until his death in 1888.

I was wondering if you have any information on the Pistner family? Any details would be helpful.

Thanks.

Marti
My List list starts at Sophia Barbara List (1838-1906), daughter of Johann Adam List (1814 - 1874) who was the son of Johann Georg List (1874-1859), son of Johann List (1855-1804)who in turn was the son of Conrad List (1713-1780)and then back to Leonard List, who I think is the same one you mentioned.

Sophia Barbara List married Johann M. Stuetzer, and that is my line. I have pictures of some of her children, but none of her or her ancestors. I have some of their grave markers. I am happy to share what I have but would love to get some more pictures.

Im afraid I have no info on this family. I can suggest you join the LIST mailing list on Ancestry and ask the question there. The list is not very active as there are only about 50 LISTs around the world researching the name. You can join by going to http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~thelistfam...

Good luck

My great grandfather is Everett Justice List. His kids names were Evert L, Dale E., and James R. Dale is my grandfather. As far as I know Everett was an only child. Here is some of the information I have on him. He was born on December 6, 1898 in Grand Rapids, Kent, Michigan. His father is Marion L. List and his mother is Lena (Johnson) List. His grandfather is John J. Johnson. He passed away on June 10, 1980. He married Esther Marie Paulson on June 24, 1925 in Cadillac, MI. There are several variations of his middle name that I have found, including Jestus and Justus. Esther's mother was Jennifer Hausen and her father was Andrew Paulson. Witnesses at their wedding were Carl and Hazel Paulson.

List family in Frankenmuth Mi

Trying to contact the woman doing research on the List in Frankenmuth MI. that tried to contact me a couple of years ago. She reached my father Forrest List and spoke with my wife Theresa List, I was on the road at the time. She told my wife that if we came down to the Frankenmuth area that we needed to stop in at the old List House. I believe that she told my father the she made a conection with this List family and mine. We were in the area this past week, went to the museum. My God a few of the photos they had on the List could pass a twins to my Grandfather and a couple of his brothers. My 2nd great-grandfather settled in Wisconsin in the 1840's. However according the to genealogy records in Frankenmuth he does not appear. If someone knows of the woman or you are reading this I really would like to hear from you. Thank you Mark List

Jacob G. List and Otto List of Ozone Park, NY

Hi, I'm looking for information about two brothers, Jacob G. List (b. Nov 1894) and Otto List (b. Nov 1888). Jacob G. and Otto were the sons of German immigrants, Jacob List (1866-1938) and Amelia Zimmerman (1859-1943). They had three other brothers: Emil Karl (1881-1946), William F. (1898-1991) and Paul H.(1896-1917). Jacob G., Otto and Emil Karl all worked at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The family lived in Woodhaven and Ozone Park, NY from abt. 1900. Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

Re: William List of Ozone Park New York b. abt 1900

Hi,

My stepdad's maternal grandfather was Emil Karl List (b. 1881) whose family lived in Ozone Park in the early 1900s. According to Emil's death certificate, his parents were Jacob List and Amelia Zimmerman, but we don't know if Jacob was actually Emil's father or whether Emil was the product of Amelia's first marriage. Jacob and Amelia were married circa 1892, their sons were Jacob G., William F. (b. 18 June 1898, d. 20 June 1991) and Paul List. Otto List was a stepson of Jacob's who was living with the family in the early 1900s. Emil was a steamfitter who worked at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. In 1905, he married Caroline Hollfelder and they raised their family in Ozone Park and Woodhaven, NY, at one point living on Shoe & Leather St.

Does any of this sound familiar? I'm curious about your saying Jacob's wife's surname was Pilger, wonder if that was her maiden name or her first married name. I'd be very glad to exchange further information with you. You can reach me through this message board or directly at cyndidejesus@yahoo.com, thanks.

Hi Jim, Just discovered that men up to age 65 were required to register for the draft for WWII, so your info was correct, thank you! Had earlier read the age limit for draft registration was 45 but apparently that was an error, seems the limit for active service & not registration was 45. Just couldn't have imagined such a thing but a little more research turned up the Selective Training and Service Act of 1940 which explains it all.

Thanks again, this is a great lead! Regards, Cynthia

Hi, Could you mean WWI draft registration instead? Emil Karl List was born 1881, died 1946, so he would've been too old for WWII draft registration. His son, also named Emil List, would've been the right age (b. 1915) but he was born in Ozone Park, NY. Please clarify if possible, and thanks a lot!

Jeanne List Walkey Rice 1922-2011 Ohio

RICE Jeanne List Walkey Rice. It is with great sorrow we announce the death of our quick witted, strong willed, wonderful mother, Jeanne List Walkey Rice.

Born to Paul and Grace (Gaffin) List on September 30, 1922 in Peebles, Ohio, she was a 1939 Reynoldsburg, Ohio High School graduate.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Harry James "Jim" Walkey, who lost his life in WWII, our beloved father Wendell Kent Rice, who fell in love with her while she was on a visit to Vermont and followed her back to Ohio, her son Wendell Kent Rice II, her first born who brought her joy, and her sister Pauline List Murray, whom she adored.

She is survived by her son, Doug (Barb) Rice of Logan, Ohio; daughter, Wendy Green of Canal Winchester, Ohio; grandchildren, Wendell Kent (Becky) Rice III of Nevada, Randi (Terry) Hudson of Logan; and four beautiful great-grandsons, Ashton, Nathaniel, Rory and Aiden Hudson; sister, Kathleen List Susil Spicer of Florida; and a brother, Fred (Ethel) List of Vermont.
Her career as a medical records transcriptionist included work at Mount Carmel Hospital, Columbus, Ohio; Hocking Valley Community Hospital, Miami Heart Institute and St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica.
Her life journey as a volunteer began following retirement. She gave her dedication and hard work to many organizations including Peace Pilgrim, SIFAT, HEART, Record for the Blind, ECHO, Church of the Brethren Woodland Alters, New Windsor Service Center, Habitat for Humanity, Warren Wilson College and The Fuller Center for Housing.

A voracious reader of real life stories and poetry, she also loved cryptoquotes, word games and crossword puzzles, frequently challenging us to see who could finish first.

She never met a rock or tree she didn't like! We lovingly referred to her as the "Johnny Appleseed of rocks" as she left a trail of scattered pebbles wherever she travelled. Her disease may have robbed her of her memory, but it never took away her sense of humor or diminished her strength of character. She was a spirited, fun, fair, honest and supportive wife and mother and we will miss her deeply. The family motto "we're ugly, but we're healthy" was coined by her along with "it's not how you look, but how you feel"." She instilled in us it's not what you have, but who you are that is important.
In her papers she refers to her children as "you three, my real treasures" and it is that love, that sense of devotion that we will remember the rest of our lives.
At her request, she will be cremated and her remains scattered under a tree. A celebration gathering will be held at a later date. "Gotcha last"
Online condolences may be left for the family at www.EdwardsFuneralService.com

Published in The Columbus Dispatch on March 31, 2011
