I'm hoping to find other descendants of Francois Lirette (or Livette, in some sources) and his wife Josephine. They came to Louisiana from Nancy, France ca. 1789 with at least one child in tow. They settled in LaFourche Parish, where they apparently established themselves well enough to acquire sufficient land on which to cultivate corn, indigo, and cotton. Their daughter Margeuritte Josephine Lirette (b. ca 1789) married Joseph Rose (d. by 1828) of Thibodaux, LA in 1814. Their children were: Joseph Jr., Eliza Anne, Mary, and Lucinda. Eliza Anne Rose married Benjamin George Washington Squires (b. July 4, 1812 in Baltimore, MD) in Thibodaux in 1835, and they resided across the street from St. John's Church in Thibodaux (and were apparently buried in the churchyard)--they were my g-g-g-grandparents.

Anyway, I'd very much like to make contact with any other descendants of Francois and Josephine (especially if they know anything about the Lirette origins in Nancy).

thanks,
John
