Hi,
I just came across this while doing some research for my husband's family (Sergi/Lipari). His grandfather (father of his mother) was Antonio Franco Lipari (known as Franco). He was born in Santa Lucia del Mela, Messina, Sicily and immigrated to Canada (Montreal) in the early 1900's with his wife, Carmela Mazzagati, and their first son. My husband's mother, Agata Lipari, was born in Montreal in 1906. Antonio Franco had a brother, Mario, and three sisters (as far as we know), one (Carmela)who also came to Montreal and two who remained in Sicily. We don't know of any brothers...Mario was married to Carmela Abbate. They had eight children: Rosario, Vincenzo (Vincent), Fortunato (Quesnel), Francesco, Agata (Catherine), Giuseppe (Joe), Antonio and Giovanni (Giovannino, Johnny). Antonio and Rosario were in the Merchant's Navy and I believe eventually lived in the U.S. Mario had a grocery store. His father was Giuseppe Lipari, mother was Agata Sergi.
As I say, we are not aware of any brothers in the U.S. I've asked my husband's aunt and she only knows about the sisters. She is 90 and says that Mario died when she was young. He was probably born around 1869.
I hope that this is helpful. Feel free to contact me for more info.
