I am searching for the parents of William Linfoot who migrated with his family to South Australia in 1849 on the Duke of Wellington. The passenger list for the Duke of Wellington records his age as 40 and this suggests that he was born around 1809. The passenger list is at:
http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/australia/dukeofwellington...I can find the christenings for all his children and birth registrations for those children born after July 1837. These were all recorded at locations in and around York. William’s wife is listed as Mary Ann or Ann. On the birth registrations, her maiden name is given as Whitwell.
I have been unable to locate the marriage registration for William Linfoot and Mary Ann Whitwell. I expect this to have occurred before 1830.
For the 1841 census, William and his family were at St Helen Stonegate in York. William was a whitesmith and Mary Ann is listed as Marian. Mary Ann appears under the name of Miriam in some subsequent documents.
One possibility is that William Linfoot is the son of Elizabeth (Sivers) and Thomas Linfoot. This William was christened on 24 July 1808 at Sutton on the Forest in Yorkshire.
Is anyone researching this family or have any further information that would help me?
